The U 16 Pink Day Blitz was held in Dublin on 19th July. The Windgap camogie team which included the following girls from Dunamaggan and Kilmoganny Gemma Long, Emer Moylan, Eleanor Costello, Michaela Kenneally, Katie Dunphy, Marina Kelly, Alison Bergin, Rachel Bergin, Michelle Maher, Niamh Bambrick, Laura Cuddihy and Niamh Phelan who due to injury could not play took part. In their opening match against Oulart-the-Ballagh which was played on Astroturf, the girls took time to adjust to the surface and were eventually beaten by 5 points. Against St. Vincent's they played very well and were beaten by just one point. They qualified for the Shield Semi Final against neighbours Piltown. This game saw cousins play against each other. There was fierce local rivalry in a low scoring game. The Windgap fullback line of Catherine Foley, Sarah Grace and the determined Gemma Long kept the Piltown attack at bay. Eventually Windgap won by the narrowest margin of a point but it put a stop to a recent run of successes which Piltown had enjoyed over Windgap in recent weeks. In the Shield final, played on the Sunday morning, the opposition was Oylgate from Wexford. Favored by a strong breeze Windgap opened up a 2 - 2 to 0 - 3 half time lead. In the second half the Wexford girls made great use of the elements and ran out 4 point winners. While disappointed at loosing the final the girls had an enjoyable week end and wish to thank the Thomas Davis club for organizing the event and trainers John Bergin and Kathleen Purcell. The team also appreciated the attendance of a number of the Piltown girls at the final and the support they gave them.
Dunamaggan Hurling Club wish every success to their club men William Phelan who is on the Kilkenny Minor Team which plays Galway and Noel Hickey, Canice Hickey and David Herity who are members of the Kilkenny Senior Hurling team panel which plays Cork in their All-Ireland Semi Finals next Sunday. As usual a bus has been organized to travel from Dunamaggan to the match.
The drainage work has now been carried out on the Dunamaggan G.A.A. field. The reseeding of the pitch is expected to take place during the next few weeks.
