KILMOGANNY BRIDGE CLUB: The results of Wednesday 8th March were: 1st: Margaret O’Shea & Pascal Grace; 2nd: Kathleen O’Shea & Mary Lonergan; 3rd: Elizabeth Lanigan & Grace Landy. Bridge takes place each Wednesday at 8.00 p.m. in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny. Visitors are always welcome and partners will be provided if necessary.

KELLS HANDBALL CLUB: In the County Juvenile 40 x 20 championships in the U 12 Boys Singles the Kells players were Adam O’Sullivan, Joe Murray, Killian Tallon and Joseph Prendergast.  Joseph defeated Rory Garrett (Galmoy) in the semi-final and Cathal Purcell (Goresbridge) in the final.  Well done Joseph


In the Adult Leinster 40 x 20 championship in Intermediate Doubles Brendan Burke (Kells)/Ciaran Neary (Talbot’s Inch) defeated Ian Griffin/Adrian Benson (Dublin) and in the Junior B Doubles Diarmuid Burke/Anthony Martin (Kells) defeated Wayne Kinsella/Daniel Curry (Wicklow).


In the Leinster Semi Final of the 40 x 20 U 16/17 Team 4 Kilkenny defeated Kildare. The Kells representatives were Michael Power and Kevin Murray, with Jack Hanrahan (Galmoy), Conor Foley (Windgap) and James Love (Clogh). Unfortunately Laois beat Kilkenny in the Leinster Final. Hard luck but very well done on reaching the final. In the Minor Singles All Ireland 40 x 20 Semi Final Eoin Brennan (Kells) defeated Diarmuid Mulkerrins (Galway) 21-9, 21-19. Well done Eoin. Dan Breen (Kells) attended a One Wall Tournament in Italy but was defeated in the semi-final of the Men’s Open Doubles.


 


ST. PATRICK’S DAY which is on this Friday 17th will have masses in St. Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny on Thursday evening at 7.00 p.m. and on Friday at 9.30 a.m. in St. Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny and at 11.00 a.m. in St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan.


 


THE MONTHLY MASS for boys and girls who will soon receive their First Holy Communion will be celebrated on this Sunday 19th March in St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan.


 


ST. JOSEPH’S HOME KILMOGANNY wishes to express its gratitude and thanks to the Shrughawadda Players who donated €1,000 to the Home recently and also to Kilmoganny P.O. which donated the proceeds of its Christmas Hamper Draw of €1,000 to the Home. There is a vacancy in the Home for a person who is eligible under the Community Employment Scheme as a cleaner. Anyone interested should contact 087 – 2485111.


 


KATIE LEAHY formally of Carricknatha, Kilmoganny dies peacefully in St. Columba’s Hospital, Thomastown last Thursday. Katie celebrated her 94th birthday recently in St. Joseph’s Care Home for the Elderly in Kilmoganny where she was a resident for the past few years. She was preceded by her husband and three children. She is survived by her sister Carmel, grandchildren, in-laws, relatives and many friends and Anthony whom she fostered. Her remains were removed from St. Joseph’s Home on Saturday morning for mass of Christian burial in St. Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny where they were received by Rev. Nicholas Flavin P.P. before the celebration of mass at which Rev. Liam Cassin was con-celebrant. Relatives read the readings and prayers of the faithful and presented the gifts at the offertory. Ag deire an aifreann labhar Anthony trí gaeilge agus trí bearla. She was laid to rest in Kilmoganny Cemetery. May she rest in peace.
