KILMOGANNY BRIDGE CLUB: The results of Wednesday 15th March were: 1st: Carmel O’Sullivan & Emer Wallace: 2nd: Josie O’Gorman & Tina Ronan; 3rd: Nellie O’Shea & Grace Landy. Bridge takes place each Wednesday at 8.00 p.m. in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny. Visitors are always welcome and partners will be provided if necessary.

KELLS HANDBALL CLUB: In the County Juvenile 40 x 20 Under 13 B Boys singles Kells representatives were Harry Delaney, Larry Cody and Niall Shortall. Harry Delaney came through his group and then defeated Joe Healy (Goresbridge) in the semi-final and Cathal Phelan (Galmoy) in the final.  Well done and congratulations


In the Adult County 40 x 20 championships in the Ladies B Singles Aoife Walsh (Kells) defeated Cora Delaney (Clogh) but lost out to Margaret Purcell (Windgap); in the  Junior B Singles Colin McKenna (Kells) lost out to Wesley Smyth (Windgap); in the  Intermediate Singles Diarmuid Burke (Kells) defeated Eamonn Hawe (Windgap) and Noel Doherty (Galmoy); in the Masters C Singles Paddy Fennelly (Kells) defeated Peter Ryan (Galmoy) but lost out to Jimmy Neary (Talbot’s Inch); in the Senior Singles Peter Funchion (Kells) defeated Shane Dunne (Clogh) and Patrick Funchion (Kells) defeated Ciaran Neary (Talbot’s Inch). In the Adult Leinster 40 x 20 championships in the Minor Doubles Conor Murphy (Kells) and Ciaran Cooney (Clogh) lost out to Adam Walsh and Anthony Butler (Wexford). In the Adult All Ireland 40 x 20 Minor Singles Eoin Brennan (Kells) narrowly missed out to Tadgh O’Neill (Cork) in the Final.  Well done for reaching the final.


 


DUNAMAGGAN JUVENILE HURLING TRAINING resumes on next Saturday 25th March. New members are very welcome. All unpaid membership should be paid on next Saturday morning. Participants are only insured when they have their membership paid.


 


GREAT WAR REMEMBERED: The Kilkenny Great War Memorial Committee will present an evening of song, stories and poetry, featuring a talk by military historian and curator of Stephen's Barracks Military Museum, Larry Scallen, entitled 'From Bugle Call to Tolling Bell' at 8.00 p.m. on Friday, 31st March in the Rising Sun, Mullinavat.  This commemorative event will also feature guest readers and music by the Deenside Minstrels which will recall the events and effects that the First World War had on the lives of so many people.  Tickets, €5, are available from Tomás Breathnach (086-0704114) and at the Rising Sun (051-898173). There were 175 families from South Kilkenny bereaved by the loss of loved ones in World War 1.  Others served in World War 1to return to their families but were changed and/or affected by the experiences for the remainder of their lives.


 


SOUTH KILKENNY HISTORICAL SOCIETY LECTURE on the very relevant topic of “The Post Office in Ireland” by Mr Stephen Ferguson, GPO Dublin will take [lace in Mullinavat Parish Hall (opposite church) on Wednesday, March 29th at 8.00 p.m. Admission is free for members and €5 for non-members. All are very welcome.
