SCHOOLS CAMOGIE TEAM WIN: Dunnamaggin Schools contested the Roinn D Shield Final last Wednesday, May 24th against city side St John's. The fixture was set for Dunamaggin (a good luck omen to the home side having won the Roinn C football on the same pitch 6 months previously). However, this group of girls know that to win; needs dedication, commitment and hunger! They beat St Canice’s B team in the semi-final and were in good shape coming into the final. The Dunnamaggin team emerged from the dressing rooms clad in their new, cool and colourful Masita Jerseys kindly sponsored by Matt Doran and Dunnamaggin LGFA. What a great occasion to get their first outing!

A heat-wave had descended upon Dunnamaggin, making conditions difficult as hot- heat rained down on the girls, their helmets cocooned their heads in warm sweat, the arid heat burnt at their legs. The grass stood still as if it was too hot to move.... but that didn't stop the Dunnamaggin girls.

From when Pascal Connolly threw on the sliotar the Dunamaggin side dominated the game. The hurling was hard and the effort on the field was excellent. Given the heat and energy the girls were giving, all the panel were called upon to play their part in this epic final. Although the Dunnamaggin girls led throughout, St John's never took their foot off the pedal, notching up scores that put tremendous pressure on the Dunamaggin backs. However "pressure is for tyres" and the Dunnamaggin Girls pulled away to win on a final scoreline of; Dunnamaggin 5 – 4 St John's 4 - 1

Dunnamaggin captain Megan Kenneally accepted the cup from Claire Dermody, and she thanked St John's for a great game. She thanked the referee and Dunnamaggin GAA for the use of the pitch. She also thanked Ms Walton, Ms Noeleen Delahunty, Ms Connolly and Mrs Langton for coaching the girls. The medals will be presented to the girls on Monday, June 26th in At Leonard's NS, Dunnamaggin.
