BRIDGE classes for beginners will commence in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny on Wednesday 28th September at 8.00 p.m.. The classes will continue for 10 successive Wednesdays. The cost is €20. No card playing knowledge is required. For further details contact 087 – 2257498.
THE RETIREMENT CELEBRATIONS for Ms. Eilish Lanigan, principal, St. Eoghan’s School, Kilmoganny took place last Friday. The celebrations began with mass in St. Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny at 7.30 p.m. which was celebrated by Rev. Nicholas Flavin P.P. and attended by present and past pupils, numerous parishioners, teachers from local schools, members of the Board of Management and the Lanigan Family. The readings at the mass were read by past pupils and present pupils read the prayers of the faithful and presented the gifts. In his homily at the mass Rev. Nicholas Flavin thanked Eilish Lanigan for her 31 years of dedicated service to the community of Kilmoganny as a teacher and school principal. During all her teaching career she had prepared children annually for first Holy Communion. He thanked her and all teachers for their responding to the diverse and individual needs of children so that each child’s talents are developed and the seeds of each child’s potential are nurtured. He also thanked the parents as the primary educators of their children for the trust they have in teachers and teachers for their faithfulness to the trust placed in them by parents.
At the subsequent reception in St. Eoghan’s Centre which was organised by parent of present and past pupils Eilish Lanigan expressed her thanks to all in Kilmoganny and associated with the school for their support. At the end of her remarks she presented the keys of the school to the new principal, Tom Hickey. She had a special word of thanks to Ann Flemming who has been school cleaner all during her time in Kilmoganny.
Rosaline Carroll, on behalf of the Board of Management, thanked Eilish for her dedication and made her a small presentation from the Board. Joan Kenneally spoke on behalf of the Parents’ Council and also made a presentation. Rev. Nicholas Flavin again thanked her for her dedication and commitment to the people of Kilmoganny. The present pupils presented her with a bouquet of flowers. Willie Kearney was master of ceremonies.
A LYRICS BOARD competition will take place on this Saturday 17th September at 9.00 p.m. in Dunphy’s Lounge, Kilmoganny. It will be followed by a disco. All are welcome.
FORT RANGERS SOCCER CLUB is seeking new members who were born between 2002 and 2005. Parents of such children who wish to join the club should contact Tonnie Moore at 086 – 8965401.
THE CAMPHILL COMMUNITY in Ballytobin will hold their annual open day on this Sunday 18th September from 2.00 p.m. – 5.00 p.m. The festivities include Wheel of Fortune, Cake sale, Vegetable and plant sales, teas/coffees, raffles, numerous stalls and a great assortment of children’s entertainment. Donations for the various sales and stalls would be very welcome. Your support on the day will be very much appreciated.
A TABLE QUIZ will take place in Shirley’s, Kells on this Saturday at 9.00 p.m. in aid of K.R.E.E. The funds raised will go to the support and upkeep of Mullin’s Mill and the Island Walk. The cost is €40 per table.
THE COMMUNITY ALERT wishes to remind people of the importance of vigilance at this time. As a number of home break-ins have occurred recently all are asked to take notice of any non local vehicles which are parked in the area especially if they are parked near a house where the occupants may be away from the house. If any suspicious activity is noticed then the Gardai should be contacted.
KELLS HANDBALL CLUB: In the Juvenile 60 x 30 U12/13 Team of 6 Leinster semi final Kilkenny’s Conor Murphy (Kells), Conor Condon (Kells), Roy Cullen (Kells), John Delaney (St. Canice’s), Dean Farrell (Mothel), Marc Purcell (Clogh), Shane Dunne (Clogh), and Dion Bourke (Mothel) received a walkover from Offaly. They met Wexford in the Leinster final on Friday 10th September at 7.30pm in Garryhill where a strong all round team performance saw Kilkenny defeat the Wexford team. Well done to the Kells lads and the entire Kilkenny teams at U12/13,U14/15 and U16/17 as all won their Leinster Finals

HISTORY OF DUNAMAGGAN: The first meeting of the autumn will take place on Tuesday week 27th September at 8.00 p.m. in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny. All are welcome to attend. The committee would again appeal to anyone who has material which they consider as relevant to bring it to the meeting or contact any member of the committee.
ST. LEONARD’S SCHOOL WINNERS AT IVERK SHOW: The following entries from St. Leonard’s School, Dunamaggan were prize winners in the Iverk Show: 1st. Prize in the Classroom Frieze for Junior & Senior Infants; 2nd & 3rd Prizes in the Classroom Frieze for 3rd & 4th Classes; 2nd & 3rd Prizes in the Support your Team category by 3rd & 4th classes; In the Individual Painting Emma Denny took 3rd prize; In creative Writing Eileen Burke 3rd Class took 3rd place; In an Scéal Beag Aoife Mulhall 4th Class was the winner; in the 4th Class Creative Writing Aoife Mulhall was 2nd; In the Individual Painting for 4th Class Sarah Doherty was 3rd; In the Greeting Card Category for 3rd Class Gillian Costello was 2nd and in the4 6th Class Collage Kathy Long won 1st prize.
Callan Women’s group will meet on Wednesday, September 21st at 8pm in the Droichead Family Resource Centre. All local women are welcome to come along for a chat and plan activities for the coming months.
