ST. LEONARD’S SCHOOL SUCCESSES: The 5th and 6th classes had a very successful day at the Waterford/Kilkenny round of the primary schools’ Spikeball competition recently in Grennan college. Five teams competed on the day and all five reached the semi-finals, out of a total of 32 teams. Unfortunately, one of the boys teams were knocked out at this stage and in a cruel twist, the two mixed teams ended up in another semi-final where one team knocked out the other. However, three teams emerged victorious and will compete in the regional finals in Thurles on the 9th March.

The teams are: Girls; Ava Sheridan, Grace O Sullivan, Clara Whelan Foxe, Blaithin Holden and Ellie Kinsella

Boys; Noah Gilmore, Cathal Buckley, John Hayes, Killian Tallon, Sean Lawton, Ross O Neill

Mixed; Tim Doherty, Sean Rossiter, Eoin Shiel, Jamie Tallon, David Moore, Charlie Nesbitt, Louisa Gilmore, Ava-Lily O Neill, Emily Ryan and Caitlin Fallon

In Handball St Leonard's had 6 boys competing in the schools A handball recently and the day ended with 3 championship medals. Ross O Neill and Cathal Buckley competed in the U13 doubles, beating a tough Windgap duo in a tie-breaker. Ciaran Hickey competed in the U11 singles where he won his final against his de la Salle opponent on aces. All three went on to compete in the Leinster competition on 5th February where the doubles were beaten finalists against Wexford and Ciaran was beaten in the semi-final. It was a great achievement to represent their county and the boys enjoyed playing in a provincial competition.
