TEAMS WIN DOUBLE ALL-IRELAND SILVER: St Leonard's School, Dunamaggan had a very successful run in the spikeball competition this year. In January 5 teams contested the Kilkenny/Waterford competition with 3 teams qualifying for the regional finals. At the regional finals in Thurles on March 9th the standard was higher but two teams (boys and girls) qualified for the national finals. These were held on March 22nd in Mary Immaculate College Limerick. It was a great occasion and of course another level again in skill and athleticism. However the Dunnamaggin teams were well prepared and the boys topped their group for the quarter finals, with the girls in second place heading into their quarter final. Both teams eased into the semis and faced very stiff opposition there. The boys dug deep to win their game against a fancied Cavan side and the girls had to hold their nerve in a tie break set to beat a good Cork outfit. Hopes were high going into the finals. The girls had the tough task of playing a super team who had beaten them earlier and though they gave their all, the Dublin team were victorious. The boys faced a team who they had already beaten but the heroics of the semi did its damage and the Galway team turned the tables. Though tears were shed they were quickly wiped away as the realisation of their achievement sank in, It was the first time in nationals with two teams competing and both reaching the final. When presented with their medals the organiser was very complimentary on the skill level of both teams and that both teams had emerged as medal recipients out of the 300+ teams who had entered the competition. It will be a fantastic memory for them to have of their time in St. Leonard’s. The teams were: Ava Sheridan, Ellie Kinsella, Grace O’Sullivan,   Clara Whelan Foxe, Blaithin Holden, Ava-Lily O’Neill, Louisa Gilmore
