 THE KELLS BOOK CLUB meets on the first Thursday of every month, in Shirley’s. Their next meeting is on Thursday Oct 6th at 8.30 p.m.. New members are invited and are very welcome.


THE HISTORY OF DUNAMAGGAN committee will have its next meeting on Tuesday next 27th September in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny at 8.00 p.m. All are welcome to attend especially anyone who has relevant information or material and has an interest in the Parish History.

THE DUNAMAGGAN PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL discussed the following at its recent meeting: (1) the changes in the responses at mass. It was agreed that an explanation of the changes will appear in the bulletin each week; (2) the future Grouping of Parishes. All parishioners are asked to consider what grouping in the future would best suit Dunamaggan Parish; (3) The Eucharistic Congress in 2012 which will be the major event next year. It was agreed to keep people informed of developments re the congress; (4) the possibility of a Christmas Carol Service. If anyone has ideas re this they are asked to convey their ideas to any member of the Pastoral Council; (5) the need for additional Readers and Eucharistic Ministers. Volunteers for these miniseries are very welcome. 


BRIDGE classes for beginners will commence in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny on Wednesday 28th September at 8.00 p.m.. The classes will continue for 10 successive Wednesdays. The cost is €20. No card playing knowledge is required. For further details contact 087 – 2257498.


ST. EOGHAN’S SCHOOL, KILMOGANNY had a number of prize winners in the Piltown Show. The following received prizes: Leona Drennan first in the 3D Construction; Mollie Keech won two first prizes in Card Making and in Knitting; Aoife Monahan won second prize in Knitting.


ALICE FORAN OF NEWCHURCH, KILMOGANNY was laid to rest on last Friday in Kilmoganny cemetery. She was the last member of her family to pass away. She is survived by her many relatives and friends. She reposed in St. Joseph’s Home, Kilmoganny before her removal to St. Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny where her remains were received by Rev. Nicholas Flavin P.P. on last Thursday. During the mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Nicholas Flavin with Rev. Larry O’Keeffe as con-celebrant symbols reflecting her life were presented. The readings and prayers of the faithful were read by relatives. May she rest in peace


KELLS HANDBALL CLUB: The Kilkenny U 12-13 60 x3 0 team of 6 played Wexford in Garyhill, Carlow in the Leinster Final. The first pair up for Kilkenny was Shane Dunne Clogh and Dean Farrell Mothel who played Adam Walsh and Daniel Kavanagh Wexford. The first game saw some great handball with Kilkenny winning 15-8, the second game saw the Kilkenny pair displaying some great serves and shots and winning 15-3. The second pair out for Kilkenny was Dion Bourke Mothel and Ciaran Cooney Clogh who played Patrick Boland and Anthony Butler, in the first game the Kilkenny pair got off to a great start winning 15-2, the second game the Wexford pair came out fighting and played some great handball but Dion and Ciaran fought hard to win the game 15-13. The score going into the last pair was Kilkenny 60 Wexford 26. The third pair for Kilkenny was Roy Cullen and Conor Condon Kells who played Ciaran Busher and Alan Browne with Roy getting a great serve going and winning the game 15-0, the second game saw sub Marc Purcell Clogh play with Conor Condon and both lads played great handball winning the game 15-7. Congratulations to all the lads on winning the U 12-13 team of 6 Leinster final under the guidance of Brendan Hosey Clogh and Sean Walsh Mullinavat and wishing them the best of luck in the All Ireland semi-final. Kilkenny U 14/15’s & U 16/17’s also won Leinster titles with Kells man Stephen O’Dwyer on the victorious U 16/17 team. Well done to Stephen on making up for his defeat in the U 17 Singles Leinster Final and best of luck to him in the All Ireland series


In the County Championships Minor Doubles Final Peter Funchion/Stephen O’ Dwyer (Kells) defeated Fergal Lalor/Enda O’Donohue 21-3, 21-3. This gives Stephen his 3rd county medal of 2011 having picked up the 40x20 Minor Doubles and the U 17 60x30 Singles titles previously.


In the Junior Singles Final - Anthony Martin (Kells) defeated Diarmuid Burke (Kells) 21-10, 21-11 in all Kells county final. Incidentally the 2010 final featured two Kells players as well when Patrick Funchion defeated Ger McGrath. This concluded a great 60x30 season for Anthony who also won the Hal Clarke tournament in Kilfane. Thus Anthony now has intermediate status in both alleys having won the 40x20 Junior Singles title in 2009. In the Intermediate Singles Final which was a repeat of the U21 Leinster Final Ger McGrath (Kells) defeated Keith Bourke (O’Loughlin’s) 21-4, 21-6. This gives Ger senior status in the County in softball to add to his 40x20 Intermediate Singles win in 2009. The upcoming events are the Intermediate Doubles Final between Dan Breen/Ger McGrath (Kells) and Ollie Falsey/John Morrissey (O’Loughlin’s) and the Minor Singles Final between Peter Funchion (Kells) and Sean Butler (Talbot’s Inch).
