KELLS HANDBALL CLUB was represented in the County Juvenile U 10A Singles by Simon O’Dwyer who gave a very good account of himself and in the U 11A Singles Eoin Brennan and Colin McKenna also gave good performances. In the County U 10A Doubles Simon O’Dwyer teamed up with Michael Prendergast and played extremely well but they were narrowly beaten in the final by Clogh. In the U 11A Doubles Eoin Brennan and Colin McKenna were partners and they beat Kilfane in the semi final but were unfortunate in the final to lose out to Talbot’s Inch. Both pairs gave a great account of themselves and they should all be proud of the effort they made.

In the Adult County Championships Minor Singles Final Peter Funchion (Kells) defeated Sean Butler (Talbot’s Inch). In the Adult All Ireland Finals the Waterford Institute of Technology inter-varsities team won the A title in the 60x30 court for the 3rd year running. They defeated DIT in their semi final and DCU with Talbot’s Inch player Ciaran Neary on board in the final. The team members were Ger McGrath (Kells), Patrick Funchion (Kells), Peter Funchion (Kells) and Nicky Anthony (Mullinavat). Also hard luck to Ger McGrath (Kells) who lost 5-21,14-21 to Fergal Collins(Tipperary) in the U 21 Singles All Ireland final in Talbot’s Inch on Saturday. Ger played well but it just was not his day but well done to him on winning the Leinster title and getting to the All Ireland Final. He can look back at a great 60x30 season and looks forward to competing in the Junior grade next season.

In the Juvenile All Ireland Finals three Kilkenny teams were in action last Saturday in Thurles. On the U12/13 team were Roy Cullen and Conor Condon from Kells. Roy and Conor played together in the final and won their games 15-8, 15-10. The lads played very well but sadly the Kilkenny team lost by 4 aces. The U 14/15 team won their final by 9 aces but there were no Kells players on this team. Stephen O’Dwyer was the Kells representative on the U 16/17 team that faced Tipperary in their respective final. Stephen and his partner lost the first game 15-0 and won their second game 15-13 but sadly the team lost out by 12 aces. Despite no All Irelands in the 60x30 this season Conor, Roy and Stephen can be proud of winning Leinster titles and getting to the All Irelands.
