THE ENROLMENT MASS FOR CHILDREN from all three schools in the parish of Dunamaggan who will receive their First Holy Communion next May was celebrated at 11.00 a.m. last Sunday in St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan. Twenty three children were enrolled and will receive the sacrament next May. The children are: Jamie Cashin, Charlotte Davis, Padraig Davis, Emma Dunne, Joe Fitzpatrick, Ruaidhrí Holden, Ben Kinsella, Richard Maher, Aaron Moore, Aidan O’Neill, Jimmy O’Neill, Ben O’Sullivan, Steven Sheil, Shannon Wall, Amy Monahan, Caleb O’Shea, Orla Buckley, Orlaith Hughes, Ava Murphy, Matthew O’Sullivan, Michael Thomas, Jade Quigley, and Christopher Quigley. Each child received their enrolment candle. From now until next May there will be a special mass for the children each month.

THE ANNUAL DIOCESAN PILGRIMAGE to Lourdes will take place next May from 22nd to 27th. It takes place about two weeks before the Eucharistic Congress.

COMMUNITY GAMES THREE IN A ROW: Congratulations to the Aghaviller U11 hurling team and their coaches who created history by becoming the first to win 3 in a row All Ireland titles in any team event at the recent Community Games finals in Athlone. Dunnamaggin had 6 representatives on the team, which is a combination of Ballyhale, Carrickshock and Dunnamaggin. These were Cathal Ryan, Eddie Dunne, Adam Fitzpatrick, Dylan Crehan, Dillon Wall and Harry Walsh. The team saved its best performances of the year for the finals. In their first match on the Saturday, they beat Claregalway from Galway by 5 – 7 to 3 pts, following up with a 1 – 8 to 6 pts win over Douglas of Cork on the Sunday after a thrilling encounter. The Dunnamaggin representatives were strongly to the fore in both games. This brings the number of Dunnamaggin juvenile players who have won All Irelands in this grade in recent years to 15 and a number of these players won on two occasions. The Aghaviller team was coached by Ronan Blanchfield from Carrickshock, Paul Cody from Ballyhale and John Fitzpatrick from Dunnamaggin.


 


SEAN CARROLL, KILREE was laid to rest last Thursday in Kilmoganny Cemetery. He died in St. Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny after a short illness. Sean, a native of Piltown parish moved to Kilree over 30 years ago. He was a committed farmer during his lifetime and loved the land and animals. He was devoted to his family.  He is survived by his daughters Olivia and Eileen and son Gerry, his sister Maureen, in-laws, grandchildren relatives and friends. His remains were received in St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan by Rev. Nicholas Flavin P.P. on Wednesday evening. The mass of Christian burial was celebrated by Rev. Nicholas Flavin on Thursday. The readings of the mass and prayers of the faithful were read by members of his family. The music and singing at the mass was by Dolce (Helen Hughes as organist and Martina Burke as soloist)
