DUNAMAGGAN U 15 HURLERS INTO CO. SEMI-FINAL: Having successfully beaten Graignamanagh in their first-round game the Dunnamaggin U15 hurlers took on Glenmore in Mullinavat in the quarter-final of the Roinn B championship on Wednesday last. Glenmore opened the scoring before Denis Walsh levelled with a point from play. Glenmore pointed a free only for Aidan O’Neill to level matters. Glenmore split the posts again before Tom Buckley took down a ball from under the crossbar and from the resultant attack Ruairai Holden converted from play. Nearly immediately Dunnamaggin pushed forward again having won the puck out and Denis Walsh headed for goal and duly rattled the net. The Glenmore boys to their credit did not panic in this real tit for tat battle and responded immediately with a point. Both sides traded points as the game headed for the turnaround with Tom Lodge and Joe Fitzpatrick converting for Dunnamaggin. Dunnamaggin 1:05 Glenmore 0:07 at half time with the Glenmore lads finishing the half the stronger. Some tactical changes at half time from the Dunnamaggin management to halt the Glenmore momentum paid immediate dividend when Joe Fitzpatrick converted two points. Yet again Glenmore responded with two of their own. Midway through the half the turning point came when Joe Fitzpatrick won a ball turned his man and headed for goal. He duly passed it to Ruairai Holden who was in a better position and scored a cracking goal. Dunnamaggin were then awarded a free which Joe Fitzpatrick converted. In the next attack Ruairai Holden again found himself one on one with the goalie only for the goalie to pull off a great save but Cathal Buckley was on hand to strike it to the net. Glenmore continued to battle and managed to scramble a ball across the line but with some staunch defending lead by Shaun O’Keeffe, Jimmy O’Neill and Co. any score Glenmore got was going to be hard fought for. Joe Fitzpatrick and Denis Walsh (2) split the posts again to send Dunnamaggin in to a co semi-final against Tullogher/Rosbercon/Tullaroan a score line of Dunnamaggin 3:12 Glenmore 1:12.
