CHRISTMAS CAROLS and the switching on of the lights of the Christmas Tree celebrations will return to Kilmoganny on Friday 16th December. The switching on of the lights and the singing of the Carols will commence in the Church Car Park at 7.00 p.m. Refreshments will be available later in St. Eoghan’s Centre and Children are especially invited to the celebration.

IN PREPARATION FOR CONFIRMATION the children of 5th and 6th classes of St. Eoghan’s School, Kilmoganny, St. Brigid’s School, Kells and St. Leonard’s School, Dunamaggan attended the first of four evenings on the programme You Shall be My Witnesses in St. Leonard’s School on last Wednesday from 7.00 – 8.00 p.m.. Ten parents are facilitating the programme. The second evening will be this Wednesday at 7.00 p.m.. The final two evenings will be on January 11th and 18th with the Sacrament of Confirmation being administered in St. Eoghan’ Church, Kilmoganny on Sunday 29th January during mass at 11.00 a.m.
THE SHRUGHAWADDA PLAYERS Production of Sailor Beware, an old english classic comedy of 3 acts which has some wonderful comic characters opened in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny yesterday Tuesday 6th December and will continue until this Friday 9th. Doors close at 8.15 p.m. sharp. There will be no admission once the drama has commenced. Tickets are on sale at Kilmoganny P.O., 051 - 648001, Moran’s shop, 051 - 648283, Dunphy’s Bar 051 - 648252. Admission €10. The drama directed by Michael Dowling with the cast including Caroline Doran, Willie Kearney, Biddy Hawe, David Audoire, Seán O’Brien, Aoife O’Neill, Loraine Moore, Melissa Enright and Pete Dunne maintains the high standards of the Shrughawadda players.
THE DUNAMAGGAN HURLING CLUB A.G.M. was held in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan on last Friday. The meeting was well attended. The Secretary, Eugene O’Donovan, in his report gave a comprehensive review of the years activities including the very successful setting of the Ride-on-Lawn Mower World Record last July. He thanked all who contributed to the club activities in any way during the past year. He especially thanked Michael Murphy and his team of Dick O’Shea, Margaret O’Shea and Tom Phelan for their work with the Golf Classis, the team Sponsors Ivan Sheridan of the Priory Bar, Kells, those who sold tickets, looked after teams and the grounds committee. He had a special word of thanks to Billy Heffernan, Maura Long and all who organized and made the Mower World Record event such a success. He thanked Land owners Ned and Shane Kirwan and other land owners who made their land available for the day. Congratulations were extended to Noel Hickey and David Herity on winning All-Ireland medals with Kilkenny last September. This was Eugene’s 16th report and the Chairperson Rev. Nicholas Flavin thanked him for his dedication during the past 16 years as he indicated that he was now stepping down from the position. He expressed his thanks to all who assisted in any way with club activities either on or off the field during the past year. He thanked in a special way those who brought the idea of a world record from dream to reality and expressed the hope that with similar team work and commitment on the field of play championships are possible. The Treasurer Canice Hickey in his detailed report stressed the need for prudence in all aspects of expenditure during the coming year. The club reported an excess of income over expenditure during the year this was due in no small way to the contributions made by members to the five year development plan, the success of the Golf Classic and the sale of Piltown tickets. P.R.O. James Rossiter stated that the parish website is a very good method for people in the parish or living away from the parish to keep themselves informed of happenings in the parish as the website is updated weekly. Senior Hurling team Management: Seamus Knox, Tom Hickey & A.N. Other; Junior Hurling Team Manager: Willie Kearney; U 21 Team Management: Ken Moore, Tom McCormack and Niall McCormack.
The meeting agreed to seek the placing of the Junior Hurling team in the Junior A competition for the coming year. Votes of sympathy were passed to the members of families who were bereaved during the past year.
The presentation of the Player of the Year and Clubman of the Year will take place in the Priory Bar, Kells during a Cabaret on Friday 16th December at 9.30 p.m.
KELLS HANDBALL CLUB: Laois held a 40 x 20 Juvenile B doubles tournament on Sunday 27th November, 2011 in Galmoy, Lisdowney and Cullohill. In Boys U 15 Alan Funchion (Kells)/Mark Dowling (Mothel) defeated Ciaran Tynan/Connor Saunders (Dublin) 11-7, 11-8; Tadgh Fitzpatrick/Ciaran Costigan (Laois) 11-9, 9-11, 11-7 and in the Final defeated Stefan Comerford /Keith Nolan (Laois)11-8, 5-11, 11-6 in a very close game. In the U 13 Doubles Jack Crehan (Kells)/Peter Duggan (Kilfane) lost their first match but went on to win the U13 Plate Final. In the Girls U 14 Doubles Elaine Power (Kells)/Eilis Regan (Clogh) defeated Emily Lacey/Aoife Nic Con Iomaire (Dublin), then lost to Niamh Dunne/Rachel Delahunty (Laois) but went on to beat Dublin in a very close game and win the Plate Final. Congratulations to all who took part in the tournament. Unfortunately due to injury Liam Walsh (Kells) was unable to participate in U 14 Doubles.
In the Leinster Junior Singles trials Ger McGrath (Kells) defeated Eamon Foley (Kells).
In the County Open competition, Brian Manogue (Kells) defeated Brendan Burke (Kells), Patrick Funchion (Kells) defeated Shem Kelly (Mothel) and Peter Funchion (Kells) defeated Anthony Martin (Kells). In the County Open Plate Eamon Foley (Kells) received a walkover from John Fitzgerald (Kells) and Stephen Hally (O’Loughlin’s) defeated Ian O’Dwyer (Kells).
The County Juvenile 60 x 30 winners were presented with their medals and plaques in O’Loughlin’s on Friday 2nd December, 2011 by D.J. Carey. Kells winners were U 10 B Singles Dylan Crehan, U 11 B Singles Eoin Brennan, U 13 Singles Roy Cullen, U 14 B Singles Liam Walshe, U 17 Singles Stephen O’Dwyer and G U 14 Doubles Karen Walshe and Aoife Walshe. Congratulations to them all.
KILMOGANNY FOOTBALL CLUB held its A.G.M. on last Friday evening in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan. The meeting was well attended and Chairperson Andrew O’Neill welcomed all present. He and secretary Mick Lyons gave a comprehensive review of the past years activities. The senior team contested both the League and Championship finals but unfortunately lost out in each final to Glenmore in the League and to Muckalee in the Championship. Three members of the Club J.J. Dunphy, Tommy Maher and Darren Fitzpatrick represented the county during the past year. Officers elected for the coming year are: Chairperson: Andrew O’Neill; Secretary: Mick Lyons; Treasurer: Canice Hickey; P.R.O. James Rossiter: Delegate to Count Board: Jim Fallon. Senior & U 21Team Management: Andrew O’Neill, Mick Lyons and Niall McCormack.
THE ANNUAL CHRISTMAS BAZAAR will take palace in Windgap Community Centre on next Sunday 11th December at 2.00 p.m.. Attractions include Wheel of Fortune, with Christmas cakes, hams etc., Sale of Vegetables, Firewood, Cakes, James etc., Santa will arrive at 3.00 p.m.
THE DARTS EXHIBITION in aid of Dunamaggan Hurling Club which took place in Shirley’s, Kells attracted dart enthusiastics from many places as they had the opportunity to take on Andy The Pie Man Smith in exhibition matches.
