A FASHION SHOW WITH A DIFFERENCE will be held in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny on Friday 6th January at 8.30 p.m. featuring outfits from Enable Ireland, Kilkenny & Sue Ryder, Carrick on Suir. Admission is €5. The proceeds are in aid of Sue Ryder, Enable Ireland, St. Michael’s Church and St. Joseph’s Home. Tickets are available from P. Moran and Kilmoganny P.O.. D.K.K. LOTTO: The winning numbers of the December 12th draw were: 2, 28, 31. There was no jackpot winner. The following won €30 each: Collette Fitzpatrick, Kathleen Brown, Michael O’Neill, K, J, P & C Kirwan and Paddy Leahy. The lotto winning numbers of December 19th were 1, 11, 21. There was no jackpot winner and the following won €10 each: Brid Kirwan, Roy Ellis, Charlotte Daniels, Nellie Costello and Keith & James Ryan. Next week’s jackpot is now worth €2,050. The Bingo jackpot on Saturday night’s in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny is now worth €1,010. The Pool number is worth €120.
CHRISTMAS CAROL SINGING AND SWITCHING ON OF CHRISTMAS LIGHTS, in preparation for Christmas, took place in Kilmoganny on Friday 16th December when the oldest citizen in Kilmoganny James Builder Walsh, who is 95 years young, switched on the lights and then gave a rendition of the song The Coolagh Maid. Refreshments were served to young and old in the St. Eoghan’s Centre after the celebrations.
On Sunday 18th December at the Cross in Kells a similar celebration took place with the added attraction of Santa presenting gifts to the children. On both occasions Parish Priest, Rev. Nicholas Flavin imparted a blessing.
Christmas Eve and Christmas Day were celebrated with very large congregations at all masses in the parish. Many parishioners who are working or resident away from the parish were home for the family celebration.
A NEW YEAR’S EVE GALA EVENING in aid of L’Arche, Kilmoganny will take place in Dunphy’s Lounge, Kilmoganny. The evening commences with a Darts Tournament at 4.00 p.m.. The competitions are men’s doubles and ladies singles. There are prizes for 1st and 2nd place. The entry fee is €10. A Cabaret will take place from 10.00 p.m. with music by Paddy Blanch, featuring the best of ‘60’s, ‘70’s, ‘80’s, ‘90’s music and ringing in the New Year. Admission to the cabaret is €5. OPERATION TRANSFORMATION: RTE have selected Dunamaggan Hurling Club to enter a team of 15 in this year’s event. The members of the hurling team are not eligible. A team of 15 has been selected and it has gender balance. The first weigh in takes place on January 2nd and the programme will be screened for six weeks with a weigh in each week.
THE EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS BELL which will make its way through the Diocese of Ossory will be in St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan from about 7.30 p.m. – 9.00 p.m. on Tuesday 10th January. The bell will make its journey from Windgap where it will be from 6.00 p.m. until it makes the journey to Dunamaggan. Eucharistic Devotions will be celebrated in St. Leonard’s Church and the bell will also be rung.
TOWNSEND’S PUB IN DUNAMAGGAN reopened its doors on Thursday 22nd December. The opening attracted a large clientele not only on the opening night but on subsequent evenings. The lessee, James O’Connor, is wished every success. Many locals look forward in hope that a well stocked shop will again open its door in the New Year.
