OPERATION TRANSFORMATION participants in addition to their weekly training sessions on Monday, Wednesday & Friday Evenings at 7.30 p.m. where they assemble at St. Leonard’s School Dunnamaggin at 7.30 p.m. SHARP and on Sunday Mornings is in Castlemorris Wood at 10.00 a.m. took part in the event in Castlecomer Discovery Park on Saturday last 14th January. The training is open to all and everyone is welcome to join in with the team as often as they like for the remaining 7 weeks. All participants are asked to bring High Visibility Vests and suitable outdoor footwear. The participants have sponsorship cards and the money raised will go directly to St. Joseph’s Care Home for the Elderly in Kilmoganny. The training sessions are proving to be great social outings for the participants.

THE ANNUAL MASS FOR CHILDREN who died in infancy and/or pre-birth and their families will be celebrated on next Saturday 21st January at 7.00 p.m. in St. Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny.


 


DUNAMAGGAN JUVENILE HURLING CLUB A.G.M. took place on last Friday 13th January at 7:30 p.m. in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan. Chairperson, John Fitzpatrick, welcomed the lard attendance and thanked all the mentors for their dedication, patience and commitment during the past year. He thanked all the players who represented the club in various competitions for their dedication and commitment to training. He expressed special thanks to parents who ensured that their children attended training and matches. He especially thanked his fellow officers Dennis Walsh, Secretary, and John O’Dwyer, Treasurer. He especially thanked John O’Dwyer for his dedicated service as treasurer during the past ten years. He outlined the performance of each team during the past year. He expressed the desire that all team mentors would completed the foundation coaching course and that at least two members would complete the Level 1 coaching course. He wished to encourage all juveniles to practice the skills they learn regularly at home.


The Secretary Dennis Walsh in his report concurred with the chairperson's remarks and in addition stated that there were 33 individuals involved in coaching teams of whom 11 had completed the foundation coaching course and two the level 1 course.


In the discussion which followed it was emphasised that it was important that additional members would complete First Aid Training so that the burden of providing first aid would be spread among a large number of people. It is intended to have a few registration days during the month of February.


The treasurer, John O’Dwyer, in his comprehensive report showed an excess of income over expenditure for the year.


The coaches for the coming year are as follows: U 6 Hurling: James Rossiter, Kevin O’Neill, Padraig Lawton, John Hayes, and John Kinsella. U 8 Hurling: Robbie Lodge, Stephen Gilmore, Greg Holden, Hugh McEneaney. U 10 Hurling: P.J. O’Keeffe, John Walsh, Richie O’Neill, Jim Hickey. U 12 & U 14 Hurling: Martin Crehan, Gerry Brett, Dishy Walsh, U 12 & U 14 Hurling and Football: Mark Heffernan, John Fitzpatrick, Aidan Farrell, Andrew Hickey. U 16 & U 18 Hurling & Football: John Hickey, Mick O’Neill, Niall McCormack, Canice Hickey and Pat Long. If others wish to volunteer to assist with team training they are very welcome and should contact any of the club officers.


The secretary also stated that there would be a presentation night to mark the achievement of the past year including the winning of a record 3rd successive Community Games Title by the Aghaviller area team comprising of players from Ballyhale, Carrickshock and Dunamaggan.


The officers elected were: Chairperson: John Fitzpatrick, Secretary: Dishy Walsh, Treasurer: Jackie Kennedy; P.R.O. James Rossiter; Child Welfare Officer: Maura Long; Rep. to Bórd na nOg: Dishy Walsh.


 


Kells Handball Club: In the Juvenile County 40 x 20 Championship: Girls U 12 Singles Dearbhail O’Keeffe, Kilfane defeated Sophie Thomas (Kells); Girls U 14 Singles Aoife Holden, Kilfane defeated Aoife Walsh (Kells); Girls U 15 Singles Karen Walshe (Kells) defeated Aine Dunne, Windgap in the final; Girls U 16 Singles Kirsty Maher (Kells) defeated Deirdre Purcell, Windgap in the final and in the Girls U 17 Singles Mary Buggy, Clogh defeated Caroline Murphy (Kells) in the final.  In the Boys U 12 Singles Eoin Brennan, Kells was beaten by Jack Holden (Kilfane); in the U 13 Singles Conor Murphy defeated Pat Grace, Windgap in the final; in the U 14 Singles Roy Cullen, Kells was beaten by Shane Dunne, Clogh in the final; in the U 15 singles Jack Crehan, Kells was beaten by Padraig Cooney, Clogh; in the U 16 Singles Robbie Donnelly, Kells was beaten by John Walsh, Mullinavat and in the U 17 singles Brendan Hyland, Kells was beaten by Darragh O’Shea, Windgap. Well done to all the Kells juveniles who participated.


In Leinster Junior Doubles Ger McGrath, Kells and Ciaran Neary, Talbot’s Inch received a walkover from John Rodgers and Jason Doyle, Wicklow; 


Adult Results: The first round of the 2012 Leinster 40 x 20 championship started on Tuesday 3rd January, 2012. In Junior B Singles Diarmuid Burke (Kells) defeated Alan Guinan (Offaly) but was beaten by Darren O’Toole (Wexford) in the next round after giving a very good performance. Also in Junior B Singles, Brendan Burke (Kells) received a walkover from Sean Doyle (Wicklow) and defeated Andrew Dowling (Laois) in the next round. In the Division 2 Final of the Clogh 40 x 20 Tournament Robbie Donnelly (Kells) defeated Jason Shore (Mothel) in a tie break.


 


The Eucharistic Congress Bell called people to pray on last Tuesday evening in St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan. A very large congregation was present for the hour long prayer service. The prayer service was centred about Eucharistic devotion and reflecting on the Word of God as present in the scriptures and exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. All who attended were given an opportunity to ring the Congress Bell.
