Nutrition Talk
There will be A talk on Nutrition by Mairéad O’Sullivan M.I.N.D.A. is organized for the participants and any one else who is interested in the topic in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan on this Wednesday 1st February at 7.30 p.m. sharp. Admission is €8 and any profit will be donated to St. Joseph’s, Care Home for the Elderly in Kilmoganny. Topics include in the talk are: Carbohydrates, Food labels, Portion size, Drinks and Much More.

BRIDGE CLASSES FOR BEGINNERS will commence in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny on this Wednesday 1st February at 8.00 p.m. Classes will run for 10 weeks and the cost of the classes is €20. No card playing knowledge is required. For further information contact 087 – 2257498.
THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION was celebrated in St. Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny on last Sunday 29th January during 11.00 a.m. mass. Bishop Seamus Freeman celebrated mass and administered the sacrament of Confirmation. Rev. Nicholas Flavin P.P. con-celebrate the mass. 35 children from the schools of St. Leonard’s Dunamaggan, St. Brigid’s, Kells and St. Eoghan’s, Kilmoganny received the sacrament. They were: Robbie McCarthy, Daniel Power, Ian Walsh, Leaha Keegan, Nicole McCormack, Hazel McEnery, Grace Gibney Walsh, Lauren Browne, Emma Denny, Philip Audoire, Edward Dunne, Adam Fitzpatrick, Cathal Ryan, Darragh O’Keeffe, Luke Dunne, Ellen O’Neill, Aoife Mulhall, Sarah Doherty, Alex Moore, Elizabeth Kelly, Sarah Davis, Keith Fitzpatrick, Eoin O’Driscoll, Timothy O’Shea, Sean Carroll, Aoife Monahan, Nick O’Shea, Lorcan Farrell, Sean Gordon Dalton, Dylan Crehan, Dillon Wall, Sophie Kate Thomas, Karriann Power, Jessica Phelan and Niamh Hughes.
KELLS HANDBALL CLUB: In Leinster Minor Singles Stephen O’Dwyer (Kells) was defeated by Martin Mullins (Carlow); in Junior B Singles Brendan Burke (Kells) received a walkover from Killian Gregan (Wicklow); in Golden Masters B Doubles Pat Funchion/Paddy Fennelly (Kells) were beaten by Richard Culleton/John Bail (Wexford); in Junior Doubles Ciaran Neary (Talbot’s Inch)/Ger McGrath (Kells) defeated Shem Kelly/Patrick Nolan (Kilkenny); in Open Singles Peter Funchion (Kells) defeated Jerome Willoughby (Wicklow) but was then beaten by Brian Carroll (Meath).
The results from the 40 x 20 County championships are as follows: in Junior B Singles John O’Neill (Goresbridge) received a walkover from Eamon Foley (Kells); in Minor Singles Sean Tierney (Kells) received a walkover from Eoin Delaney (O’Loughlin’s); in Junior B Singles Dan Breen (Kells) received a walkover from Kevin Law (Mullinavat).
In the Juvenile 40 x 20 County Doubles Kells Girls U 12 Doubles Kerrianne Power/Sophie Thomas were unlucky to be beaten in the final by O’Loughlin’s, Girls U 15 Doubles Elaine Power/Sarah Molloy (Kells) were also beaten in the final by Clogh. In the Boys U 12 Doubles Eoin Brennan/Michael Power (Kells) were very unlucky to be beaten in the final by Kilfane 11-6 in the tie break, in the U 13 Doubles Conor Condon/Rory Lodge (Kells) were beaten in the semi final by Clogh, in the U 14 Doubles Roy Cullen/Jack Crehan (Kells) beat Clogh in the Final 15-2,15-4, in the U 16 Doubles Robbie Donnelly/Alan Funchion (Kells) were beaten by Clogh who won the final and in the U 17 Doubles Sean Tierney/Brendan Hyland (Kells) were beaten in the final by Clogh 11-8 in the tie break. Well done to all who participated and tried their best and congratulations to the winners.
The Juvenile 40 x 20 Leinster representatives selected from Kells are in Girls U 15 Singles Karen Walshe; in U 16 singles Kirsty Maher; in boys U 12 Doubles Eoin Brennan (Kells) with Mark Nolan (Talbot’s Inch); in U 13 Singles Conor Murphy (Kells); in U 14 Doubles Roy Cullen (Kells) with Marc Purcell (Clogh) and in U 17 Singles Brendan Hyland (Kells). The best of luck to all in their Leinster championships.
Kells Handball Club held its A.G.M. and elected the following officials for 2012: Chairman Michael Delahunty, Vice-Chairman Tom McGrath, Secretary Betty Funchion, Treasurer Jim Dalton, Juvenile Officer Brigid Burke and PRO Dan Breen.
THE OPERATION TRANSFORMATION participants and many others had an early rise on last Saturday morning as RTE began recording at 9.30 a.m. The recording, which lasted about 3 hours, included county hurlers Noel Hickey and David Herity attempting to impart some of the hurling skills to the participants. It is expected that edited highlights of the recordings will be shown during the programme on this Wednesday evening.
