A CAKE SALE in aid of St. Brigid's National School, Kells will be held in the Hall in Kells on Sunday next 18th February after 11.30 a.m. Mass. The renovation work on the school is progressing well and it is hoped that the work will be completed very soon.


 


DUNAMAGGIN G.A.A. CLUB REGISTRATION and payment of membership will take place in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan on the next two Sundays 19th & 26th February after 11.00 a.m. mass each Sunday for both Adult and Juvenile members.  The Club also intends to organize a talent contest during the month of April with the final in early May. It is hoped to have heats for the contest in each of the three Villages, Kells, Dunamaggan and Kilmoganny with the final in Kells. Further details will be available very soon.


The Dunamaggan G.A.A. Club recently distributed a very colorful newsletter to all homes in the parish. While it records some important events from the past year it also included a variety of contact numbers for anyone who wishes to make contact with the club.

KELLS SCOUTS WHO ARE CELEBRATING 10 YEARS ask you to 'Join them for a Stroll in Kells'. The meeting up point is at Kells Scout Den at 2.00 p.m. on Sunday February 26th.  All are welcome to come along and stroll, catch up, relax and have a chat. All ages are welcome from 0 to 99.  There is NO ENTRY FEE.  Complimentary refreshments will be available and a bucket raising money for St. Joseph's Home, Kilmoganny will be there on the day should anyone wish to make a donation.


 


KELLS HANDBALL CLUB: In the County Juvenile 40 x 20 Girls U 10 Doubles Breanna O’Dwyer/Ciara Walsh (Kells) were defeated by Noelle Dowling/Orla Nolan (Mothel) in the final.  In the girls U 11 Doubles Laura Condon/Molly O’Keeffe (Kells) defeated Breanna O’Dwyer/Ciara Walsh (Kells) in the final. In the Boys U 10 Doubles Oisín Egan/Tomas Leahy (Kells) were defeated by Windgap and in Boys U 11 Doubles Dylan Crehan/Dillon Wall (Kells) defeated Jack Buggy/Colm O’Neill (Clogh) in the final.


In the County Adult 40 x 20 championships in the Masters B Doubles Pat Funchion/Paddy Fennelly (Kells) defeated Jim Dooley/John Duggan  (O’Loughlin’s); in the Senior Doubles Brendan Burke /Diarmuid Burke (Kells) received a walkover from Eoghan Hennessy /Partner; in the Junior B Singles Andrew O’Dwyer (Kells) received a walkover from Niall Mullally (Kells); in minor singles Sean Tierney (Kells) defeated Ronan Egan (Clogh); in Senior Singles Brian Manogue (Kells) received a walkover from William Love (Clogh); in Minor Singles Brendan Hyland, (Kells) defeated Enda O’Donoghue (Talbot’s Inch) and Cillian Treacy (Kells);


In Leinster Ladies Junior B Singles Maria Walshe (Kells) defeated Aileen Quinn (Kildare); in the Junior Doubles Ciaran Neary/Ger McGrath (Kilkenny) defeated Jerome Willoughby/James Gregan(Wicklow); in Junior B Singles Brendan Burke (Kilkenny)  defeated  Peter Whelan (Laois); in the U 21 Singles Peter Funchion (Kells)  defeated  Keith Kavanagh (Wicklow); in the U 21 Singles Patrick Funchion (Kells)  defeated  Shane Walsh (Kilkenny); in the Leinster Final of the Ladies Junior B Doubles Marie Walshe (Kells) and Rachel Hogan (Kilfane) defeated Aileen Quinn/Ellen O’Connor (Kildare). In the Leinster Open Senior Doubles Patrick Funchion/Peter Funchion (Kells) defeated John Ryan/David King (Carlow) but were beaten by Gavin Buggy/Paul Lambert (Wexford); also in the Leinster Open Senior Doubles Brian Manogue (Kells) and Nicky Anthony (Mullinavat) defeated Keith Kavanagh/James Gregan (Wicklow) but were beaten by Johnny Willoughby/Michael Gregan (Wicklow).


 


PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING REPORT (1) The Chairperson, Ned Kirwan, and the council expressed their thanks to all those who assisted and attended the evening of Devotion associated with the Eucharistic Congress Bell; (2) the council would welcome ideas as to the form and frequency of different types of devotions which could be held in the Church; (3) Tuesday 12th June is the day on which the Diocese of Ossory invites members of the Diocese to attend the Congress. People are free to attend on other days. Details of how to make bookings for rail transport and to book tickets are available on the Ossory Website.(4) The Bishop intends to consult with Priests and Parish Pastoral Councils re the best way of serving the pastoral need of the people of the diocese into the future. (5) A meeting of all parishioners from the parish will take place on Tuesday 6th March in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny at 8.00 p.m. It is important that parishioners attend this meeting as all views and opinions are important in planning the future development. (6) In 10 years time there could be 9 priests less than the number of parishes in the diocese. The diocese is planning for this development at present. (7) An increase in priestly vocation is very necessary and parishioners are encouraged to pray for vocations and to encourage youths and men to consider such a vocation.


 


ASH WEDNESDAY is on 22nd February. It is a day of Fast and Abstinence. (Fast means just three meals for adults aged 21 - 60 and abstinence means no meat on the day). Masses and the blessing of ashes will take place in St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan at 9.30 a.m.; in St. Joseph’s Home, Kilmoganny at 12.10 p.m. and in St. Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny at 7.00 p.m.
