DUNAMAGGIN G.A.A. CLUB held its first of two days of registration for players (juvenile and senior) and members in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan on last Sunday. A further opportunity to register and pay membership will be on next Sunday 26th February in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan at 11.45 a.m. i.e. after 11.00 a.m. mass. The Club is also organizing a talent contest for the month of April with heats being held in each of the three villages of Kells, Kilmoganny and Dunamaggan with the final in Kells in early May. Specific details will be available very soon.

THE DUNAMAGGAN PARISH WEBSITE, is now accepting advertisements for the current year from businesses and/or self employed individuals. OPERATION TRANSFORMATION in Dunamaggan is now coming to a conclusion but due to the huge interest from many parishioners who participated in the four day a week fitness walks it has been decided to continue with the Monday, Wednesday and Friday walks from St. Leonard’s School at 7.30 p.m. on each of these evenings and on Sunday Mornings in Castlemorris Wood at 10.0 a.m. Anyone is welcome to join any of the sessions. Those who have sponsorship cards for St. Joseph’s Home are asked to return them during the coming week. The Operation Transformation team traveled to the Phoenix Park last Saturday to participate in the National 5 km walk which marked the conclusion of this year’s event.


 


KELLS HANDBALL CLUB: In the county 40 x 20 championships in the Junior B singles James Burke (O’Loughlin’s) defeated John Fitzgerald (Kells) and Stephen Hally (O’Loughlin’s) defeated Dan Breen (Kells); in the Minor singles Stephen O’Dwyer (Kells) defeated  Fergal Lalor (Talbot’s Inch); in the Masters B singles Tom O’Keeffe (Kilfane) defeated Pat Funchion (Kells) and Gerry Murphy (Goresbridge) defeated Paddy Fennelly (Kells); in the Senior doubles Brendan /Diarmuid Burke (Kells) received a walkover from Michael Duxie Walsh /Partner (Talbot’s Inch); in the Minor doubles Cillian Treacy/Stephen O’Dwyer (Kells) defeated Sean Tierney/Brendan Hyland (Kells); in the Senior singles Ger McGrath, (Kells) received a walkover from D.J. Carey (Goresbridge); in special junior B singles Sean Foley (Windgap) defeated John Fitzgerald (Kells) and Aaron Butler (Windgap) received a walkover from Niall Mullally (Kells); in Intermediate singles Anthony Martin (Kells)  received a walkover from Colm Love (Clogh).


In the Leinster 40 x 20 championships in the Junior B Singles Leinster final Brendan Burke defeated Peter Flanagan; in the Junior Doubles Leinster final Niall O’Connor/Paul Moran (Kildare) defeated Ger McGrath (Kells)/Ciaran Neary (Talbot’s Inch); in the Ladies Junior B Singles Leinster final Rachel Hogan (Kilfane) defeated Marie Walshe (Kells) and in the Junior B Doubles semi final Brendan & Diarmuid Burke (Kells) defeated Aaron Geoghegan/Kevin Barrett (Carlow).


 


ASH WEDNESDAY is on next Wednesday 22nd February. It is a day of Fast and Abstinence. (Fast means just three meals for adults aged 21 - 60 and abstinence means no meat on the day). Masses and the blessing of ashes will take place in St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan at 9.30 a.m.; in St. Joseph’s Home, Kilmoganny at 12.10 p.m. and in St. Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny at 7.00 p.m.


 


STATIA CUDDIHY of Rossenarra, Kilmoganny died unexpectedly in St. Luke’s Hospital on 10th February. Her remains were removed from her home on Sunday 12th to St. Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny where they were received by Rev. Nicholas Flavin P.P.. The mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Monday 13th. During the mass members of the family read the readings of the mass. She is survived by her loving husband Eamonn and Daughters Judy, Benny and Jack and her sisters Nanny and Bid. Statia spend most of her life in England and returned to Ireland in recent years. She was laid to rest in Kilmoganny Cemetery. May she rest in peace. Her month’s mind mass will be celebrated in St. Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny at 7.00 p.m. on Saturday 10th March.


 


ADDITIONAL EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS are required in the parish of Dunamaggan for the Churches of St. Leonard. Dunamaggan and St. Eoghan, Kilmoganny. Those who are willing to take up the ministry or if people are aware of suitable persons they are asked to contact either Rev. Nicholas Flavin or any member of the Parish Pastoral Council. The training courses will be held in St. Patrick’s Parish Centre, Kilkenny on Monday March 5th and 12th and in Ferrybank Parish Centre on Tuesdays 6th and 13th March from 7.30 p.m. – 8.45 p.m. in both venues.


 


A MEETING OF PARISHIONERS will take place in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny on Tuesday 6th Mach at 8.00 p.m.. At the meeting the Parish Council will review its activities for the past year and invite suggestions as how it may continue to be effective in responding to the need of parishioners. All parishioners are invited to attend the meeting.


 


THE HISTORY OF DUNAMAGGAN group at its recent meeting decided to invite those who have historical pictures of the villages in the parish to get in contact. It is hoped to get photographs from different periods during the past century. Also the group is inviting photographs from those who have photographs from the winters of 2009 and 2010. Such material may be given to any member of the committee or brought to its next meeting on Monday 12th March.
