A TABLE QUIZ in aid of Kells Scouts will take place in Shirley’s, Kells on this Saturday 24th March at 9.00 p.m.. The entry is Table of 4 is €40. A Raffle will be held and refreshments will be served on the night. Your support is very welcome.

DUNAMAGGAN PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL REPORT: (1) The chairperson welcomed two members of the Southern Deanery Pastoral Council to the meeting. It was the first Pastoral Council of the 14 in the Southern Deanery which they hope to visit. (2) The annual celebration welcome and Family which takes place in July in Dunamaggan was discussed. The council would welcome ideas re the celebration and how it could be enhanced. (3) On Sunday April 29th in Mooncoin there will be a celebration from 2.00 p.m. - 6.00 p.m. in preparation for the Eucharistic Congress for the Southern Deanery of the Diocese (i.e. the 14 parishes in the south of the diocese). Further details of the celebration will be known later. (4) The idea of celebrating a mass of healing in the parish during the Lourdes Pilgrimage was discussed. A decision will be made at the next meeting. The council would welcome views and ideas from parishioners. (5) The possibility of having some celebrations associated with St. Leonard’s Well and St. Leonard’s Bush was discussed. This topic will be discussed at the next meeting and any ideas and views are very welcome. (6) Thanks was expressed to the two volunteers who volunteered as Eucharistic Ministers. Additional Readers and Eucharistic Ministers are always welcome. (7) It was stated that volunteers will be needed in the coming months to look after the flowers in the church in Dunamaggan.


Gretta Phelan, Currahill, Kilmoganny died peacefully in the nursing home in Carrick on Suir after an illness. She is survived by her sisters Mary, Sr. Eileen and Claire, many other relatives, friends and neighbours. Her remains were received in St. Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny by Rev. Nicholas Flavin P.P. on Sunday 11th March and mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Monday 12th March by Rev. Nicholas Flavin. The readings and prayers of the faithful were read by family members and the gifts presented reflected her love of reading, her nursing career and love of gardening. She was laid to rest beside her husband James son Adrian in Kilmoganny Cemetery. May she rest in peace.


 


St Canice’s Credit Union Dunnamaggin Office held a members Open Day on Friday 16th March. KCLR were present in the afternoon and Edwina Grace. presented her Afternoon Show live from Dunnamaggin and each of five lucky members of St. Canice’s Credit Union were presented with the keys to brand new Opal Astra S1.3 CDTI supplied by Young Motors Kilkenny. The winners were Patrick Manning, Johnswell, Joan Naddy, Dungarvan, Lindsey Evans, Michael Maher and Karen Brennan, Kilkenny. Entry to the members car draw is just €42 per year which works out at 81cent per week and members have a chance to win a car each month.


There was music, banter and reflection on the importance of the credit union in the local community. Fr. Nicholas Flavin .P.P. spoke of the origins and development of credit unions and the early days when a typical loan was £5-£10. This was contrasted to the €10 million loaned by St. Canice’s so far this year. Credit Union initiatives such as the school savings scheme, the small business support loan and community support through sponsorship of hurling, camogie, soccer and local events were also highlighted.


Dunnamaggin based Creative Catering provided refreshments during the afternoon with great food and service.
