THE KILMOGANNY U 14 FOOTBALLERS reached the final of the Roinn C football championship when they defeated Tullaroan in Tullaroan in a close and exciting game on Friday night last. The sides were separated by the minimum at the break with Kilmoganny up by a point 1 - 2 to 4 points. Tullaroan mounted a swift response in the second half and went into a 2 point lead. Brian Farrell regained the lead for Kilmoganny with a goal as they pressed up from defence to try and win the game but Tullaroan regained the lead again with several well taken points. However Kilmoganny refused to give in and Conor Lawlor scored the winning goal with nearly the last play of the game to leave the slimmest of margins between the teams Kilmoganny 3 - 2 Tullaroan 0 - 9. THE DUNAMAGGAN U 16 HURLING TEAM played Gowran in the 3rd round of the league in Dunnamaggin on Thursday evening last. Dunnamaggin started well going up by two points before Gowran replied with a point. John Fitzpatrick who was dominant throughout at centre forward scored the first goal to put his team going into the break leading by 1 - 7 to 0 - 3. Dunnamaggin started the second half very well and following a good run by John Fitzpatrick, Ronan Coffey scored a goal from the received hand pass. The game was put beyond Gowran’s reach when John Fitzpatrick scored Dunnamaggin’s third goal. Full time score Dunnamaggin 3 - 15 Gowran 0 - 9. The team all played well with Eoghan Kearney and Michael Cody anchoring the defence and the partnership of Ronan Coffey and Aaron Doherty dominating and working well together in midfield. MANY YOUNG MEN OF 20 which was stage by the Shrughawadda Players in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny played to packed houses on each night. The production, directed by Michael Dowling was an outstanding success. Michael again demonstrated his great skill as a director in his casting of the play. Once again he introduce debutants in leading roles and Roseanna Connolly as Peg Finnerty was outstanding not only in her acting but with a superb singing voice. Veteran of many performances Martin O’Shea, as Danger Mullally, was once again outstanding not only in his acting but in the singing role. Eamon Murphy as Tom once again demonstrated his versatility and range of acting skills with Joan Brennan as Seelie and Tom’s brother gave a scintillating performance. Gerry Carroll, another debutant, as D.T.D. performed like a veteran of stage. Biddy Hawe, as Maynan, while she did not have a lot to say performed the role with great aplomb. Aoife O’Neill, as Kitty Curley, the fortune teller gave an acting display which professionals would find difficult to excel. Pete Dunne, another veteran, as Maurice once again showed the diverse range of his acting skills. Mark Dunphy, after an absence of a number of years, returned in the role of Kevin and showed that he has lost none of his stage craft. Willie Kearney, as J.J. Holohan, the local T.D. was very much at home in the role. Melodeon Player, Olivia Dunne, another first timer on stage excelled not only with her music but her stage craft. Bobby Murphy and Ciaran Moore were other debutants who will be seen on stage again and Gemma Long as Dot gave an excellent performance for another debutant. Katie Dunphy and Marina Kelly were the other debutants on stage and while their roles were small their performances were equal to the high standards associated with the Shrughawadda Players. The musical director was Rebecca Murphy with Alycia Kearney as stage manager. Set design was once again superb and designed by Sheila Wood. Back stage was Suzie Hickey and Caroline Doran with Jackie Kenneally and Marie Kelly front of House. The set carpenter was William Kearney with set builders, Willie Kearney, Ken Woods, Anthony Kearney and Pete Dunne. The use of entrance from off stage for many of the actors was innovative and again demonstrated the skills of Michael Dowling as a superb director.
DUNAMAGGAN G.A.A. CLUB: The club committee which is compiling the club’s 5 year strategic plan, which is based on the ideas generated at the very well attended meeting of Friday April 13th would very much welcome additional views and comments from any members who could not attend that meeting or form those who attended it and have additional views to add. Those who wish to communicate such ideas are asked to do so before the end of April.
DUNAMAGGAN U 16 HURLERS played the second round of the league against Carrickshock in Dunnamaggin on Saturday evening last. The game started slowly with both side trading points. A Ronan Coffey goal sparked Dunnamaggin into life and points from Ronan Coffey, Luke Fitzpatrick, Conor Fennelly and Conor Lawlor increased their advantage. Carrickshock responded well with a goal only for Colin Fennelly to send the sides in at half time 1 - 8 to 1 - 1 with a well taken point. Carrickshock started the second half well and scored 2 points to Dunnamaggin’s one. Dunnamaggin then exerted huge pressure on the Carrickshock's goal but without reward. Points from Aaron Doherty and Ronan Coffey again kept the scoreboard ticking over and the goal eventually game from Conor Lawlor who followed it up with a fine point.
