FIRST HOLY COMMUNION was celebrated in Kells Church on Saturday last for the following children of St. Brigid’s School, Kells Orla Buckley, Orlaith Hughes, Ava Murphy, Matthew O’Sullivan, Michael Thomas, Jade Quigley and Christopher Quigley. The readings at mass and prayer of the faithful and the presentation of gifts were done by the communicants. The school choir sang during the mass. Rev. Nicholas Flavin P.P., Dunamaggan was celebrant at the mass. He thanked the parents and teachers and extended families for their work in preparing the children for their First Holy Communion. A community celebration was held in the Mill after the celebration.
All the children for the parish of Dunamaggan who received their First Holy Communion are invited to participate as a special Group in the Corpus Christi Procession on Sunday 10th June after 11.00 a.m. mass in St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan.

THE ANNUAL MASS FOR STUDENTS SITTING EXAMINATIONS will be celebrated in St. Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny on Saturday 2nd June at 7.00 p.m. Students who are sitting for their Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate examinations are specially invited to the mass.


KILMOGANNY U 14 FOOTBALL TEAM became Co. Champions on Tuesday night last 22ns May by defeating O’Loughlin’s B in a tense and exciting game in Bennettsbridge. Kilmoganny started very well with a great point from Roy Cullen but O’Loughlin’s replied immediately with a point. Then a great save from Jamie McLoughlin kept O’Loughlin’s from gaining a foothold in the game. Two Points from Roy Cullen, one from Rory Lodge and a goal from Conor Lawlor rewarded Kilmoganny for the good brand of football they were playing. Further points came from Dara Keane (2) and Nicky O’Shea and a goal from Roy Cullen which left Kilmoganny with a healthy lead 2 - 07 to 0 - 03 at half time. It was O’Loughlin’s who started the second half the brighter with 4 unanswered points, Kilmoganny responded through points from Dara Keane, Roy Cullen, and Luke Fitzpatrick but O’Loughlin’s goaled on 17minutes.They also missed a retaken penalty (the initial one being saved by Jamie McLoughlin but players were judged to be ahead of the penalty taker). Conor Lawlor pointed to take some of the O’Loughlin’s pressure off but they goaled again to leave for a very tense finish but Kilmoganny had the final say with a well taken point and final score line of 2 - 12 to 2 - 08. There were double celebrations for Kilmoganny football on last Tuesday night as the Senior Footballers overcame Dicksboro in the first round of the Senior Football Championship in Tom Ryall Park Kilmanagh. Kilmoganny fielded without county senior hurlers Noel Hickey and William Phelan as both were carrying knocks from the weekends hurling action. Kilmoganny got into their rhythm very quickly with the full back line dealing well with anything that came their way. Two goals from Darren Fitzpatrick and a goal from David Herity left Kilmoganny in a commanding lead at half time 3 - 07 to 0 - 03. Dicksboro however mounted a fierce comeback in the second half scoring three goals of their own but Donal O’Shea’s goal 10minutes from the final whistle sealed the victory for Kilmoganny on a scoreline of 4 - 12 to 3 - 05. A MEETING OF COMMUNITY AND VOLUNTARY GROUPS from the Callan Electoral Area will take place in Coolagh Hall, on Thursday 7th June at 8.00 p.m. The meeting is open to all who wish to be informed of various developments in the County. One of the major developments at present is the opportunity to participate in the process of the development of the County Development Plan for 2014 – 2020. In addition information will be available on LEADER projects.


A RACE NIGHT IN AID OF THE S.E RADIO-THERAPY TRUST which provided free transport for Cancer Patients in the S.E. will take place in Dunphy’s Lounge, Kilmoganny on this Friday 1st June at 9.00 p.m. The Slatequarries District Vintage Car Club is organising the event. Your support would be appreciated.
