THE ANNUAL MASS FOR STUDENTS SITTING EXAMINATIONS was celebrated in St. Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny on last Saturday 2nd June at 7.00 p.m. by Rev. Nicholas Flavin P.P.. The mass was offered especially for students who will be sitting for the Junior and Leaving Certificate Examinations which begin on this Wednesday. The students are: Leaving Certs: Kevin Brennan, Aisling Cody, Catriona Cody, Conor Fennelly, Suzie Dunphy, Peter Kenneally, Mairead Kiely, Conor Long, Michael McGrath, Jack McGrath, Ultan Moran, William Moylan, Sean Moylan, Amy Murphy, Aisling O’Dwyer.
Junior Certs: Alison Bergin, Louise Blake, Jack Brett, Callan Byrne, Kate Carroll, Ronan Coffey, Emma Crehan, Laura Cuddihy, John Fitzpatrick, Eoin Kearney, Clodagh Keech, Sarah Kent, Sarah McKiernan, Emily Murphy, Kelvin Murphy, Greg O’Donnell, Shannon O’Shea, Amber Prior, Lauren Thomas, Kim Thompson, Hazel Townsend, Aoife Wall.
Many of the students present took an active part in the mass by reading the readings and prayers of the faithful and presenting gifts and symbols. The communion reflection which was a parents’ prayer was read by Joan Brennan. Johno Reid played music during communion.
At the mass and at the other three masses in Dunamaggan parish at the weekend Br. Brian Johnston, Franciscan Brother, preached. In his address he reminded people of the poverty and lack of education in rural Africa where they work. He encouraged all to continually pray for them and their work. He stressed that it is prayer that gives their members the strength to continue in their work and that miracles do happen in every day life as a result of prayer.

THE DUNAMAGGAN U 14 HURLING TEAM maintained their winning ways when they played Gowran in the 3rd round of their hurling league on last Friday evening in Dunnamaggin. Dunnamaggin started well and applied pressure on the Gowran backs throughout the entire first half. A goal from Morgan Thomas followed by an excellent goal from Conor Lawlor added to their excellent point taken enabled them to lead at the break by 2 - 4 to 0 - 1. The second half saw the Gowran comeback with Dunnamaggin conceded two goals one from a blocked shot that fell to a Gowran player and the second from a long ball that was connected on in the air and crashed to the back of the net. Dunnamaggin added four points in the second half. A third Gowran goal closed the gap but Dunamaggin held out for a three point win with the final score 2 - 8 to 3 - 2. Dunnamaggin are top of the league after 3 rounds with 2 games to play (against Bennettsbridge & O’Loughlin’s B). THE ANNUAL CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION will take place in Dunamaggan on next Sunday June 10th after 11.00 a.m. mass. The Altar Servers will lead the procession and they will be followed by those who received their First Holy Communion this year. (This is the final special mass for these children). During the procession the rosary will be recited. All parishioners and any others from outside the parish who wish to participate in the procession are very welcome.


THE NEXT MEETING RE THE HISTORY OF DUNAMAGGAN will take place in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny on next Monday 11th June at 8.00 p.m.  All are welcome to attend.


A MEETING OF COMMUNITY AND VOLUNTARY GROUPS from the Callan Electoral Area will take place in Coolagh Hall, on Thursday 7th June at 8.00 p.m. The meeting is open to all who wish to be informed of various developments in the County. One of the major developments at present is the opportunity to participate in the process of the development of the County Development Plan for 2014 – 2020. In addition information will be available on LEADER projects.


A FAMILY FUN DAY will be held in St. Leonard’s N.S. Dunamaggan on Sunday 24th June from 2.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. It promises to be a fun afternoon for all the family and combines the annual school league finals, the presenting and raising of the latest green flag and to end the afternoon the Parents Association have organised a “Grand Balloon Race”. There will also be a barbeque, teas and coffees and goodies available. Tickets for the Balloon Race will be on sale on the day and also in the School Hall on Wednesday 6th June from 12 noon -1.00 p.m. and again from 2.0 p.m. – 4.00 p.m. All are welcome and your support on this day is as always much appreciated.
In addition the fitting and ordering of the St. Leonard’s  School Tracksuits & Coats (coats are optional) will be this Wednesday 6th June from 12 noon to 1.00 p.m. and again from 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. in the School Hall. Please note that all orders must be paid in full on the day either by cash or cheque.


KELLS HANDBALL CLUB: The 60 x 30 Handball Season has commenced with the Kilfane Hal Clarke 60 x 30 Tournament. The Kells representatives are Brendan Burke, Diarmuid Burke, Ger McGrath, Dan Breen and Anthony Martin. The Clogh U15/16 60 x 30 Tournament is taking place with Kells being represented by Alan Funchion and Robbie Donnelly.  Good luck to them all. Well done to John Fitzgerald who won the Williamstown One Wall Men’s Challenger Singles Final defeating Anthony Crotty from Ballyporeen.


THE ANNUAL VARIETY CONCERT 2012 will be held in Dunphy’s Lounge, Kilmoganny on Saturday 16th June commencing at 9.30 p.m. sharp. It is in aid of St. Eoghan’s School, Kilmoganny. Tickets are on sale in local shops or you may pay on the door. Admission is €7. A great night’s entertainment is in store for all. It will include comedy (including familiar comedy from TV and Screen), music, song and dance, with a Vincent brown political sketch, historical drama of World War II. You are asked to come early and get a good seat. The venue will be fully seated.
