THE ANNUAL VARIETY CONCERT 2012 will be held in Dunphy’s Lounge, Kilmoganny on this Saturday 16th June commencing at 9.30 p.m. sharp. It is in aid of St. Eoghan’s School, Kilmoganny. Tickets are on sale in local shops or you may pay on the door. Admission is €7. A great night’s entertainment is in store for all. It will include comedy (including familiar comedy from TV and Screen), music, song and dance, with a Vincent brown political sketch, historical drama of World War II. You are asked to come early and get a good seat. The venue will be fully seated.
THE ANNUAL CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION took place in Dunamaggan after 11.0 a.m. mass last Sunday. The weather was ideal and a large number of parishioners took part in the procession. The first communicants of 2012 lead the procession.

A MEETING OF COMMUNITY AND VOLUNTARY GROUPS from the Callan Electoral Area took place in Coolagh Hall, on last Thursday 7th June. County Chairperson, Nicholas Flavin, outlined the developments of the County Forum and of the Leader Partnership Company but concentrate on the importance of and how to influence the forthcoming Co. Kilkenny Development Plan for 2014 – 2020. A meeting to discuss the Plan will take place in the Friary House in Callan on Wednesday 4th July at 7.30 p.m.. Meetings will be held in other electoral areas also. The main topic for the Callan meeting is Community and Rural Development but local topics should also be discussed. This is an opportunity to influence the planning process of the county for the next 6 years.
THE GREAT BALOON RACE will be part of the Family Fun Day which will be held in St. Leonard’s N.S. Dunamaggan on Sunday 24th June from 2.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. It promises to be a fun afternoon for all the family and combines the annual school league finals, the presenting and raising of the latest green flag and to end the afternoon the Parents Association have organised a “Grand Balloon Race”. This is an event where individuals buy a balloon and the one which travels furthest and is returned is the prize winner. There will also be a barbeque, teas and coffees and goodies available. Tickets for the Balloon Race will be on sale on the day. All are welcome and your support on this day is as always much appreciated.
KELLS HANDBALL CLUB: The 60 x 30 Leinster Championship has commenced with Ger McGrath (Kells) defeating Chris Doyle (Wicklow) in Junior Singles; Anthony Martin (Kells) defeating Paul Treacy (Wicklow) in the Junior B Singles, Diarmuid Burke (Kells) defeating Kevin Rossiter (Carlow) in the Junior B Singles and Dan Breen (Kells) gave Mark Farrell (Meath) a walkover in Junior B Singles; in the Junior B Doubles Anthony Martin/Dan Breen (Kells) defeated Paul Treacy/Joe Stafford (Wicklow); in the Junior Doubles Ger Anthony (Mullinavat)/Ger McGrath (Kells) were beaten by Shane Rossiter/Phil Coleman (Wexford). In the Junior B Club Championship the Kells Team of Brendan Burke, Diarmuid Burke, Dan Breen and Anthony Martin were beaten in the final by Crinkle in a very close encounter losing out by 6 aces on a score of 74-68. Hard luck to them but congratulations on reaching the final.
In the 60 x 30 Juvenile County Championships in the U 12 Singles Eoin Brennan (Kells) was defeated by Ciaran Cooney (Clogh) in the final, in the U 13 Singles Cillian Lafford (Kells) was defeated by Aidan Barry (Clogh) in the final and in the U 14 Singles Roy Cullen (Kells) was defeated by Shane Dunne (Clogh) in the final. In the girls U 12 Singles Sophie Thomas and in U 13 Singles Kerrianne Power represented (Kells) but were unfortunate not to make the finals. Well done to all and hard luck on losing out in the finals.

DUNAMAGGAN HURLING CLUB wishes to remind members who have not yet renewed their membership that unless the membership is renewed by July 1st they will not be included in the draws for All-Ireland tickets. HORTICULTURE & OFFICE SKILLS CLASSES @ FETAC LEVEL 4: The Droichead FRC in partnership with Co. Kilkenny VEC's Back to Education Initiative (BTEI) are currently accepting applications from all early school leavers interested in participating on the following FETAC Level 4 accredited programmes in Callan: (1) Horticulture (4M1994) and (2) Office Skills (4M2070). It is expected that both programmes will run in the Droichead FRC (from 9.30am-2.00pm for 2 days per week) over the September 2012-June 2013 period. FREE places are available on this part-time programme to applicants with Junior Certificate standard of education. Priority for places will be given to those in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance and/or Job Seekers Benefit. An Information/Registration Session is scheduled to take place in the Droichead FRC on Tuesday, 19th June @ 9.30am.
