DUNAMAGGAN U 12 HURLERS had a great win recently against Ballyhale. The match was played in Dunnamaggin on Saturday 14th last and was a ding dong affair. Dunnamaggin’s backs played very well in this first half with Dylan Carroll and Dillon Wall to the fore, with the latter scoring a great point when moved to the forward in the second half. In the forwards, Conor Brett, Daniel Power and Luke Dunne took the fight to the Ballyhale boys and challenged hard for every ball. There was little between the teams in the first half and as the break approached, the sides were level on 2 points each. However, Eoghan Cody stood over a free for Ballyhale just before half time and somehow the ball deceived the backs and our solid goalkeeper Denis Walsh to dip under the crossbar for a goal. At half time the score was Ballyhale Shamrocks 1 – 2, Dunnamaggin 0 - 2. Dunnamaggin came out fighting in the second half and got an early goal through Daragh O’ Keeffe after some great work by the same player. A second soon followed from Eddie Dunne who was very busy on the right wing and both sides also exchanged points. Ballyhale responded with a second goal of their own, again through Eoghan Cody who was being well marshalled by both Harry Walsh and Conor Hoban in turn at centre back and full back. Cathal Ryan was a real thorn in the side of the Ballyhale defence and was rewarded with a goal after some hard work at the three quarter stage. After the sides exchanged further points, the long whistle went leaving the final score at Dunnamaggin 3 – 6 to Ballyhale Shamrocks 2 – 4. Great credit goes to all of the Dunnamaggin players and substitutes who gave their all on the day. As well as those mentioned above, particularly good performances on the day came from Dylan Crehan and Adam Fitzpatrick, with Ian Walsh and Robbie McCauley scoring some great points. Daragh Walsh and Ger Coffey also played vital roles when introduced. Both sets of players know each other well from having won Community Games All Irelands together with Aghavillar over the past three years and the sides are due to pay each other again in Ballyhale in the coming weeks where an equally close game is expected.
