BRIDGE LESSONS FOR BEGINNERS will commence in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny on Wednesday 3rd October at 8.00 p.m.. The classes which run for 10 successive Wednesdays. The cost for the 10 lessons is just €20 and this includes tea/coffee. Those who begin the lessons do not need any previous card playing experience. A MEETING FOR PARENTS of children who will receive their First Holy Communion next May will take place in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan on this Wednesday 26th September at 7.00 p.m.


 


KELLLS HANDBANN CLUB: In the County 60 x 30 Championships in all Kells finals Peter Funchion (Kells) defeated Anthony Martin (Kells) in the Intermediate Singles Final and in the Intermediate Doubles Final Patrick and Peter Funchion (Kells) defeated Diarmuid and Brendan Burke (Kells).


In the All-Ireland semi-final of the Juvenile 60 x 30 U 12/13 Team of 6 Tipperary defeated Kilkenny’s team of Conor Murphy (Kells), Conor Condon (Kells), Eoin Brennan (Kells), Robert Dowling, Aidan Barry, Ciaran Cooney, Eoin Regan and Jack Barcoe. In the All-Ireland Final of U 14/15 Team of 6 Cork defeated Kilkenny’s team of Jack Crehan (Kells), Shane Dunne (Clogh), Marc Purcell (Clogh), Dion Bourke (Mothel), Niall Walsh (Windgap), David Doyle (Windgap) and Maurice Walsh (Kilfane).


 


COUNTY SENIOR HURLERS VISIT STARS OF THE FUTURE: County Hurlers David Herity and William Phelan visited Saturday morning's final training session of the season for the U 6 & 8 Hurlers of Dunamaggan Hurling Club. There was great excitement among the players as they got to take shots on the Co Goalie and play in matches alongside their heroes. Davy and Willie made the presentations at the end of training and each player got a medal, goody bag and a specially designed certificate and a poster of All-Ireland champions since 1887. Davy and Willie posed for photos and signed hurleys and a great day was had by all. The U 6 Hurlers have their final game in Mooncoin on Saturday next at 10.00 a.m. sharp.


 


SUCCESS IN IVERK SHOW: The pupils of St. Leonard’s School, Dunamaggan continued the school’s success in the Iverk Show in Piltown. The following is a list of their prize winners: First Prize winners: In Poetry: Sarah Davis and Matthew Walsh: In Art: Isobel Johnston and Grace O’Sullivan. Second Prize winners: In art Niamh Walsh, In Frieze 3rd & 4th Classes and Darragh O’Keeffe in Tapestry. Third Prize winners were: Scarecrow: Aoife Mulhall and Sarah Davis; In the Frieze Junior and Senior Infants and the Junior Infants in the Collage.


Daniel Power won first prize for his tapestry and he also won the Overall Shield. In winning the Shield he continues a family tradition as his sister and brother won the shield in previous years. Great credit is due to the teachers and pupils in the school for the standard of their entries to the show each year. (Photo attached of Pupils with entries )



Nancy Butler, Kilmoganny, who was the oldest woman living in the parish of Dunamaggan died peacefully in St. Luke’s Hospital on Friday morning. Nancy recently celebrated her 96th birthday. She was very proud to have reached such an age. Her husband Maurice preceded her by over 11 years. She is survived by her children Dick, Tim, Jimmy, Sonny, Mick, Liam, Martin, Ann, Angela and Mary her sister Peg, in-laws, grandchildren and great grandchildren, relatives and friends. Her remains reposed at her daughter Mary’s house in Kilmoganny, where she had lived for the past 11 years. Her remains were received at St. Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny by Rev. Nicholas Flavin P.P. who celebrated the mass of Christian burial. The choir from Camphill sang at the mass. Members of the family read the readings and the prayers of the faithful. Members of the family also presented symbols which reflected her life of faith and prayer, devotion to family and love of walking and reading. Her son, Liam, thanked all who cared for her and for all who supported the family. Her granddaughter, Annette O’Shea, shared some of the great wisdom that Nancy passed on to her recently. She was laid to rest beside her husband, Maurice, in Kilmoganny cemetery. May she rest in peace.
