CAMOGIE TABLE QUIZ: Windgap Camogie Club, which has many Dunamaggan members, will host its Halloween Family Table Quiz in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan on Wednesday 31st October at 8.00 p.m.. Entry is €20 per table. There are prizes for the best costumes. Your support would be very much appreciated.

A VERY SUCCESFUL FORESTRY DAY was held in the forest at Monamore, near Dunamaggan last Wednesday week. In all four groups of participants attended the day. Each group had a two hour tour. The tour started at St. Leonard’s Hall, in Dunamaggan where participants signed in and were taken by bus to the forest site. In all almost 200 attended some travelling from as far as Mayo and Armagh. Creative Catering in Dunamaggan provided the catering on a day when there was no electricity as the E.S.B. had the power switched off on Tuesday & Wednesday for maintenance work. The event was organised by Teagasc.
THE ST. VINCENT De PAUL SOCIETY will hold a church door collection in Kilmoganny and Dunamaggan on the week-end of 3rd/4th November This collection is to assist it with its work in the locality.
THE NEXT MEETING OF THE HISTORY OF DUNAMAGGAN will now take place on Tuesday 30th October, a week later than originally planned. Any person who has material which they consider submitting to the group for inclusion in the history are invited to do so as soon as possible.
NEWLY RETIRED PEOPLE AGEING WITH CONFIDENCE PROGRAMME: This progamme is for retired people and is specifically designed to offer older people support in living life to the full in a positive way. The course will be run over 10 Thursdays from 2.00 p.m. – 4.30 p.m. and will begin on Thursday October 25th in the Droichead Family Resource Centre, Callan. This course is run in partnership with Droichead FRC and Kilkenny Age Friendly County and is free of charge. Please contact Droichead FRC to book a place on 056 77 555 19 Ext. 1
DUNAMAGGAN PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING REPORT: (1) The mass times for this Christmas are: Christmas Eve: Kilmoganny at 7.00 p.m. & Dunamaggan at 9.00 p.m., Christmas Day Dunamaggan at 11.00 a.m. (2) Masses for 2nd November are; Dunamaggan at 9.30 a.m. & St. Joseph’s Home, Kilmoganny at 12.10 p.m. (3) Volunteers are invited to assist with flowers in Dunamaggan. Those interested are asked to give their names to any member of the Parish Committee; (4) Christmas Carols will take place in Kilmoganny prior to Christmas.
KELLS HANDBALL CLUB: The World Handball Championships were held in Citywest from 11th to 21st October, 2012. In the Boys U 13 Singles Conor Murphy went out in the 2nd round to Daniel Kavanagh who was the runner up in the final; Eoin Brennan also went out in the 2nd round to David O’Byrne; in the Boys U 13 Doubles Conor Murphy and Todd Hynes went out in the quarter final to Cooney and Agnew; in the Boys U 17 Singles Brendan Hyland went out in round 3 to Colin Crehan who reached the final; in the Boys U 19 Singles Peter Funchion went out in the quarter finals to Martin Mulkerrins who reached the final; in the Men’s U 23 Doubles Patrick Funchion and Peter Funchion went out in the quarter finals to Fergal Collins and Gary McConnell; in the Men’s A Doubles Patrick Funchion and Peter Funchion were beaten in the semi-final by the eventual winners Damien Martin and Rikki O’Gara; in the Men’s B Singles, Ger McGrath got through to round 3 where he was beaten by Terry Kiernan, in the Men’s B Doubles Ger McGrath and Michael Gregan were beaten in the 2nd round by the eventual winners Ciaran Neary and Michael O’Brien; in the Men’s C Singles Diarmuid Burke progressed to round 3 where he was beaten by Colm O’Luing, Anthony Martin also got to round 3 where he was beaten by Sean Digney; C.J. Delaney was beaten in an early round by Stephen Smullen; Dan Breen went out in Round 3 to Peter Flanagan and Brendan Burke went through 9 tough rounds to reach the Final but was beaten by William Love in a great display of skill and stamina; in the Men’s C Doubles Anthony Martin and James Hennessy went out in the 3rd round to Cooke and Ryan; in the Golden Masters B Singles Pat Funchion went out in an early round to Paul Ruane; in the Golden Masters B Doubles Pat Funchion and Paddy Fennelly also went out in an early round to Escobar and Contreras. Congratulations and well done to everyone who participated in the World Handball Championships which was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
