PROGRESSIVE 25’S CARDS:  The weekly progressive 25’s takes place in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny on Sunday nights beginning at 8.30 p.m.. Windgap G.A.A. Club are also holding a Progressive 25’s this Friday night in Guinan’s Pub, Windgap at 8.45 p.m.. All are welcome to support the event.

KELLS HANDBALL CLUB: The Leinster Finals of the Juvenile Team events took place in St. Joseph’s, Wexford.  The U 12/13 Team of 6 of Conor Murphy (Kells), Conor Condon (Kells), Eoin Brennan (Kells), Colin McKenna (Kells), Mickey Carey (Goresbridge), David Blanchfield (Kilfane), Ciaran Cooney (Clogh) and Aidan Barry (Clogh) defeated Wexford in the final; the U 14/15 Team of 6 of Jack Crehan (Kells), Roy Cullen (Kells), Sean Carey (Goresbridge), Dion Bourke (Mothel), Marc Purcell (Clogh), James Culleton (Windgap), David Doyle (Windgap) and Dylan Caulfield (Kilfane) beat Wexford in the final; in the U 16/17 Team of 4 Alan Funchion (Kells), Darragh O’Shea (Windgap), Paulie Clifford (St. Canice’s) and Conor Lyons (St. Canice’s) were defeated by Wexford in the final.  Congratulations and well done to all who participated in the team events and good luck in the All-Ireland semi-finals.


 


COMMUNITY GARDENS INFORMATION AND PLANNING: Droichead Family Resource Centre: Callan community garden group will hold information and planning session in Droichead Family Resource Centre (The Friary) on Thursday, November 8th at 12.30 p.m. An expert horticulturist will be available weekly to give advice on getting this group up and running. Work will take place in the garden area surrounding the Friary and in the polytunnel. Members of the group will learn new skills from each other. This is an educational and social project which is run partnership with Droichead Family Resource Centre and Kilkenny Leader Partnership. Anyone interested in Callan Community Garden Project are welcome to come along to the information session.


 


VEGETABLE GROWING COURSE: Learn How to Grow Your Own Vegetables is a 5 week course that will take place in Droichead Family Resource Centre (The Friary) in Callan on Thursday, November 15th and will run for 5 consecutive Thursdays. It will take place from 10.00 a.m. -12.00 p.m. This course is suitable for beginners or anyone who wants to brush up on their gardening skills. People will learn how to grow vegetables without the use of chemicals. The course will include: Autumn Preparation - composting, mulching, improving soil, crop rotation, nature and wildlife.  Spring Preparation - seeds, supports, fertilisers, watering & preparing the soil. Harvesting- Pests and Diseases.


 


 


SCHOOL EXTENSION FOR ST. LEONARD’S SCHOOL: Tenders are now invited for the school extension to St. Leonard’s School, Dunamaggan. This extension is required because of expanding numbers in the school which now require an additional teacher. The extension will also replace the present pre-fab building.


 


COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT: Kilkenny Leader Partnership is seeking expressions of interest from Communities to participate in a new training programme for the development of the unique attributes of villages. In addition for the Gathering 2013 some funds are available through the Co. Council. Applications need to be submitted before the end of November.  A meeting will take place in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan on Thursday week 15th at 8.00 p.m. Anyone interested in either or both of the above topics is invited to attend.
