Further success for Kells Handball

03 December 2012

In the All Ireland Club 40 x 20 championships Kells Junior B Team of Brendan Burke, Diarmuid Burke, C.J. Delaney, Anthony Martin and Dan Breen travelled to Salthill, Galway on Saturday 1st December, 2012. They defeated Nenagh, Co. Tipperary and Coolgreaney, Co. Wexford along the way tothe final. In the final they fought off stiff competition when they met Broadford, Limerick winning out by 8 aces. This win follows on from their recent Provincial Interclub Junior B Team win and having been defeated in the 60 x 30 All Ireland final earlier in the year this was a brilliant way to bounce back. Congratulations to all the Kells lads on two great achievements. The 3rd level Colleges 40 x 20 Team championships were held in St. Joseph’s Wexford and representing Waterford Institute of Technology (W.I.T.) on the Open Team were Peter Funchion (Kells), Patrick Funchion (Kells), Ger McGrath (Kells) and Noel Holohan (Wexford). WIT defeated Carlow IT in the quarter final and DCU in the semi final.  They then met last years Open Team winners UCD’s Martin Mulkerrins, Sam Temple, Marc McGowan and Barry Nash in the final.  The final went down to the wire but in the end WIT won out with 11 aces to spare.  WIT had then completed the Team double as they added this 40 x 20 All Ireland Intervasity’s team title to their 60 x 30 team win a month ago.
