THE WEDDING
CELEBRATION
of
Rachel O’Connor, Raheen, Dunamaggan and Andrew Hickey, Danganmore, Dunamaggan
was celebrated in St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan on Friday last 14th
December. The celebrant was Rev. Nicholas Flavin P.P. assisted by Rev. Fergus
Farrell. The Maid of Honour was Regina O’Connor and Valerie Walsh was
bridesmaid. John Hickey was best man and Tom Hickey was groomsman. The flower
girls were Aideen Hickey and Crioa Hickey and Andrew Power was pageboy. In
addition to lighting the Candles for marriage, Andrew Hickey also lit a candle
in memory of his late father, Andy. The readings and prayers of the faithful
were read by members of the family and both mothers, Anne Hickey and Mary
O’Connor presented the gifts at the offertory. The transport used to bring the
bride from her home to the Church was a tractor and the same tractor brought the
bride and groom from the church back to her home. The tractor had family
connections to both families as it was sold over 30 years ago by Andy Hickey,
later father of Andrew, to Gerry O’Connor, father of the bride who subsequently
handed it on to his brother in Clare. The box attached to the tractor was
fitted in beautiful bridal style for transporting the bride. Tom Cahill was the
driver of the tractor.

ST. LEONARD’S
SCHOOL:

Futsal Winners!
The 4th class boys (and Aidan O’Neill 3rd)
competed in the Kilkenny 5-a-side futsal competition in the Watershed on Nov.
23rd. With four of the team training with the Kilkenny U 11 squad,
hopes were high that our boys would do well. P.J. O’ Keeffe was their manager
and the boys won most of their round matches easily. The semi-final was a tough
contest where the boys had to come from behind to beat Skough 3 - 2. In the
final they met St. Patricks De La Salle. After another tough match the boys
emerged victorious on a score line of 2 - 1. The team: Andy Hickey, Darragh Walsh,
Dylan Carroll, Ivan McCauley, Tadhg O’Sullivan, Conor Denny, Sean O’Keeffe and
Aidan O’Neill. They will receive medals from the F.A.I. Well done!

In the Boys
Roinn B Football Primary Schools Final:
The boys of
4th, 5th, & 6th class with boys from St.
Brigid’s and St. Eoghan’s competed in the final of Roinn B Football league on
Saturday 1st December in John’s Park. They were up against the
much-fancied Castlecomer. However the boys had trained hard under the watchful
eyes of Paschal Connolly and Tom Hickey and had a fantastic campaign throughout
their league. The boys settled well and were one point up at half time.
Unfortunately, the second half didn’t go as well for them and a penalty for the
Comer lads proved to be the turning point of the game. The lads battled really
well but Castlecomer won in the end by a four-point margin. The boys were
disappointed but everyone including their opponents commented on how well they
played.

Girls Football
semi-final:
The girls from Dunnamaggin (St. Leonard’s
& St. Brigid’s) did very well this year reaching Semi-final stage but met a
very strong Muckalee side and unfortunately were knocked out. The girls had
done very well winning five of their six matches. Captains Sarah Doherty and
Niamh Hughes did very well to motivate and organise the team. Well done to all
involved.

THE KELLS WELLINGTON RACE
will take place on St. Stephen’s day. This is now an annual event and is
expected to once again receive great support from the local and surrounding
community.
