BRIDGE CLASSES FOR BEGINNERS will commence on
Wednesday 23rd January at 8.00 p.m. in St. Eoghan’s Centre,
Kilmoganny. The Classes will last for 10 successive Wednesday’s at the very
modest cost €20 which included tea/coffee. No previous card playing experience is

HISTORY OF DUNAMAGGAN: The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 22nd
January at 8.00 p.m. in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny. All are welcome.
DUNAMAGGAN HURLING CLUB held its A.G.M. on last Friday 11th
January at 8.00 p.m. in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan. The Chairman, Fr. Nicholas Flavin, thanked all who helped out in all
aspects of the club. In particular he thanked all supporters and sponsors of
the club especially the Priory Bar, Kells. He thanked all 64 club members who
attended the initial meeting on April 13th 2012 facilitated by representatives
of the County Board which began the process of developing a Club Strategic
Plan. He thanked Denis Walsh and his sub-committee for their work in preparing
the Club Strategic Plan based on the ideas expressed at the April 13th
meeting. He appealed for members to become involved in refereeing as it is an
area that is often forgotten about but essential for our game. While being
relegated to the intermediate grade was a let down on the field he urged all
players to double their efforts and target a return to the senior grade next
year. He congratulated Noel Hickey on winning his ninth all-Ireland medal and
Davy Herity and William Phelan on their all-Ireland victory. He thanked all who
supported the community lotto, Piltown tickets, golf classic and all
fundraising activities and the Priory Bar for its sponsorship. Secretary,
Rachel O’Connor gave a comprehensive report on the past year’s activities and
expressed sympathy for all deceased members of the club especially Neddy
O’Neill, Tom Ryan, Tommy O’Shea and Paddy Daniels and a minutes silence was
observed in their honour. Treasurer Canice Hickey reported that the club
finances were in a healthy state and that the sale of the Community lotto
tickets and Piltown tickets and Golf Classic are essential to the clubs
fundraising. A number of Amendments to the clubs constitution were passed
unanimously. There was a review of the club’s membership rates and all
membership rates were reduced for the coming year The new membership rates are
as follows: Family membership €160; Juveniles from 4 years to 16 years €40;
Juveniles 17 – 18 years €50; Adult players €150; Student Adult Players €80. All
these rates are inclusive of club insurance cover for players. The Chairman
reminded players that they are not insured unless they have their club
membership paid.
The outgoing
officers of Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer stated that they would not be
going forward for these positions in the coming year. The officers elected were
as follows: President: Fr. Nicholas Flavin; Vice-President: Billy Heffernan; Chairman:
John Hickey; Vice-Chairman: John Fitzpatrick; Secretary: Andrew O’Neill;

Manager: Malachy Hogan; Registrar: Rachel O’Connor; Committee members: Aidan Farrell,
Pat Long, Gerry Brett and Denis Walsh.
KELLS
HANDBALL CLUB: The New Year has just begun and
with it comes the start of the 2013 40 x 20 Championship. The Adults started their Leinster 40 x 20
Championship on 9th January, 2013.
In the Junior B Singles Diarmuid Burke (Kells) defeated Sean Doyle (Wicklow)
but was then beaten by Maurice Murray (Kildare), Dan Breen (Kells) was defeated
by Sam Temple (Kildare); in the Junior Singles Brendan Burke (Kells) defeated Mick O’Donnell
(Dublin) and Ger McGrath (Kells) defeated Miley Connors (Wexford).
The County Juvenile 40 x 20 singles championship also commenced. Representing Kells in the Girls U 12 Singles
was Laura Condon, in the Girls U 13 Singles was Orla Grace, in the Girls U 14
Singles was Kate Cowhig, in the Girls U 15 Singles was Aoife Walsh and in the
Girls U 16 Singles was Kirsty Maher who defeated Deirdre Purcell (Windgap) in
the final and in Girls U 17 Singles was Karen Walshe who was beaten in the
final by Denise Love (Clogh).
Representing Kells in the Boys U 12 Singles was Dylan Crehan who was
beaten in the semi-final by Jack Holden (Kilfane) who went on to win out the
final, in the Boys U 13 Singles was Eoin Brennan who defeated Robert Dowling
(Mothel) in the final, in the Boys U 14 Singles Conor Murphy defeated Michael
Carey (Goresbridge) in the final, in the Boys U 15 Singles Roy Cullen was
beaten in the final by Marc Purcell (Clogh), in the Boys U 16 Singles Conor
O’Dwyer withdrew due to injury and in the Boys U 17 Singles Alan Funchion was
beaten in the semi-final by Mark Dowling (Mothel). Congratulations and well
done to all who participated.
THE A.G.M. OF KILMOGANNY FOOTBALL CLUB was held on last Friday night in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan.
Chairman Andrew O’Neill outlined the clubs activities throughout the year and
outlined the new format for the senior footballer’s league this season. It will
be run off in a closer timeframe and will involve only three games so it is
important to hit the ground running. He also brought to everyone’s attention
that gum shields are now compulsory for all players up to minor grade and will
be compulsory for all grades from 2014. He congratulated Malachy Hogan on being
appointed selector with the Co. Football Team. Club Secretary, Michael Lyons,
gave a comprehensive report on the Club’s activities during the past year. Those
elected on the night were: Chairman: Andrew O’Neill; Secretary: Mick Lyons;
Treasurer: Colin Herity; P.R.O. James Rossiter; Co. Board Rep: Jim Fallon;
Senior Football team management: Andrew O’Neill, Niall McCormack and Liam
Heffernan. U 21 Team Management team: Mick Lyons, Malachy Hogan and Andrew
O’Neill.
DUNAMAGGAN JUVENILE HURLING CLUB will hold its A.G.M. on this Friday, 18th January,
at 7.30 p.m. in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny. All parents of juvenile
players and those interested in Juvenile G.A.A. are invited to attend. Those
attending are also reminded of the change of venue to Kilmoganny from
Dunamaggan.
DUNAMAGGAN’S
MOST DECORATED PLAYER,
Noel Hickey, announced his retirement form Inter-County Hurling this weekend.
Last September Noel won his 9th All-Ireland medal with Kilkenny. He
was a member of the Kilkenny Senior Hurling Panel from 2000 to 2012. Even
though he shares winning 9 All-Ireland medals with fellow Kilkenny greats, Noel
Skeehan and Henry Shefflin, Noel won his nine medals in just 13 years on the
panel. The others were members of the Kilkenny Panel for a greater length of
time.
