DINING IN DUNAMAGGAN: It started as an
event for the Savour Food Festival in Kilkenny during the October Bank Holiday
weekend. As it got such rave reviews Trish and Eamon of Creative Catering
decided to repeat the experience. #DineinDunnamaggin will take place in
Creative Catering Ltd premises, Dunamaggan for the third time on February 1st
and 2nd. Trish & Eamon great their guests at 7.30 p.m. with
champagne and canapés. This is followed by a seven concourse tasting menu using
local products and suppliers such as Goatesbridge Trout, Knockdrinna Cheese and
Herithy’s Vegetables. There are only ten places available each night at €65 per

DUNAMAGGAN JUVENILE HURLING CLUB held its A.G.M. on last Friday 18th
January in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny. The A.G.M. was very well attended. The
Chairman, John Fitzpatrick, gave a comprehensive review of the past year and
detailed the achievement s of teams at each age level. He thanked all the
mentors, players and supporters for their efforts during the past year. He
congratulated Noel Hickey on winning his record equaling ninth All-Ireland Senior
Hurling medal with Kilkenny and also congratulated David Herity and William
Phelan on their All Ireland medal victories. Secretary, Dennis Walsh in his
report gave a comprehensive report on the number of registered players at each
age level. He also gave details of the number of coaches at each age level and
the number who have completed level 1 and level 2 coaching with the County
Board. The following officers were elected for the coming year: Chairman: John Fitzpatrick; Secretary: Denis Walsh; Treasurer: Jackie
Kennedy; PRO: James Rossiter; Children’s Welfare Officer: Maura Long; School’s
Liaison Officer: John Fitzpatrick; Club Coaching & Games Development
Officer: Tom Hickey; Rep to Bord Na nOg: Denis Walsh. It was agreed that the
U 10s and U 12s would resume indoor training in Wallslough from next Friday
night 25th January. The U 10s play at 6.30 p.m. and the U 12s at 7.30
p.m. The cost is €3 per child per night. For further information and any

There was a
comprehensive discussion on Juvenile Hurling and Football. It was agreed that
the teams would compete at Roinn B in the upcoming leagues.


The following are

THE
MONTHLY MASS
for children who will receive their First Holy Communion
next May will be celebrated in St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan on next Sunday
27th January at 11.00 a.m.


 


DUNAMAGGAN
G.A.A. CLUB WILL HOLD REGISTRATION DAYS
on the weekend of 9th
& 10th February after mass in each of the churches. The
registrations will take place as follows: In Kilmoganny on Saturday 9th
February in the front room of St. Eoghan’s Centre at 7.30 p.m.; In Dunamaggan
on Sunday 10th February at 11.30 a.m. in St. Leonard’s Hall,
Dunamaggan and in Kells in the Scouts Hall/Community Hall at 12.00 noon on
Sunday 10th February. Parents of juvenile are asked to register
their children on these days. All adult Club members are also encouraged to
attend these registration days. The annual club membership rates are as
follows: Family membership €160; Juveniles from 4 years
to 16 years €40; Juveniles 17 – 18 years €50; Adult players €150; Student Adult
Players €80: Adult membership €50. All players, juvenile and senior, are
reminded that they must be registered before taking part in games. All juvenile
Footballers must now comply with the new rules of having a gum shield before
taking part in games.


 


KELLS HANDBALL CLUB: The
County 40 x 20 Juvenile Doubles championship took place over the weekend and
representing Kells in the Girls U 12 Doubles were Laura Condon and Margaret
Irish who took Laura Foley and Roisin Foley, Windgap to a 3rd game
in the semi-final but lost out in the end, in Girls U 13 Doubles were Orla
Grace and Kate Cowhig who played well but were beaten by Kilfane in the final,
in Girls U 14 Doubles were Kim Ryan and Kerrianne Power who tried hard but were
beaten in the final by Margaret Foley and Margaret Purcell, Windgap, in Girls U
16 Doubles were Elaine Power and Aoife Walsh who put up a good performance but
were beaten by Eilis Regan and Aoileann Hennessy Clogh in the final, in Girls U
17 Doubles Karen Walshe and Sarah Molloy were declared champions as Clogh had
to pull out due to injury.


In the Boys U 12 Doubles were Dylan Crehan and Michael Prendergast who
overcame tough opponents when they beat Eamonn and Thomas Brennan, Clogh in the
final, in Boys U 13 Doubles Colin McKenna and Michael Power tried hard but were
beaten by Windgap in the final, in Boys U 14 Doubles were Conor Condon and
Cillian Lafford who gave a good performance but were beaten by Ciaran Cooney
and Aidan Barry Clogh in the final, in Boys U 15 Doubles Roy Cullen and Jack
Crehan gave a great display and defeated James Culleton and Pat Grace, Windgap
in the final, in Boys U 17 Doubles were Robbie Donnelly and Conor O’Dwyer but
were defeated by Paulie Clifford and Conor Lyons, St. Canice’s in the
semi-final.


In the Adult Leinster 40 x 20 Championships in Junior Doubles Ciaran Neary (Talbot’s Inch) and
Ger McGrath (Kells) defeated Shane Hennelly and Mick O’Donnell (Dublin); also
in the Junior Doubles Brendan Burke (Kells) and Shem Kelly (Mothel) lost out to
Jerome Willoughby/Keith Kavanagh (Wicklow); in the Junior B Doubles Diarmuid Burke (Kells) and Ger Anthony (Mullinavat)
defeated Cian Daly and Cory Fay (Dublin); also in the Junior B Doubles Dan
Breen (Kells) and Fergal Lalor (Talbot’s Inch) 
received a walkover from Stephen Kane/Ptr (Offaly) and in Ladies Junior
Singles Marie Walshe (Kells) was defeated by Una Wrynn (Kildare). The Leinster
Open 40 x 20 Senior Singles were held in Clogh over the weekend and Peter
Funchion Kells defeated Ian Griffin Dublin in the Final.



PROGRESSIVE 25’S take place on each Sunday
night at 8.30 p.m. in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny. New participants are
always welcome. In Guinan’s of Windgap progressive 25’s will take place on this
Friday at 8.45 p.m. in aid of Windgap G.A.A. Club


PADDY DANIELS, Carrick Road,
Kilmoganny, died expectantly on Saturday 5th January. He retired
recently for the Water Department of Kilkenny County Council. He is survived by
his sister Anne, Nephew Wayne, Aunts, relatives, friends and former work
colleagues. His remains were removed from St. Joseph’s Home, Kilmoganny to St.
Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny on the following Monday where they were received by
Rev. Nicholas Flavin P.P.. The mass of Christian burial was celebrated on the
Tuesday by Rev. Nicholas Flavin with Rev. Philip Brenna, O.Carm as
concelebrant. He was laid to rest in Kilmoganny Cemetery.


 


BRIDGE CLASSES FOR BEGINNERS will commence on this
Wednesday 23rd January at 8.00 p.m. in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny.
The Classes will last for 10 successive Wednesday’s at the very modest cost €20
which included tea/coffee.  No previous
card playing experience is required of those attending. For Further information
