THE
SHRUGHAWADDA PLAYERS will stage Hugh Leonard’s Da in St. Eoghan’s Centre,
Kilmoganny from Tuesday February 19th to Friday February 22nd.
Tickets are available from Kilmoganny P.O., Pete Moran’s and Dunphy’s in
Kilmoganny. Early booking is advisable as the Shrughawadda Players usually
attract full houses each night.

THE
ANNUAL BLESSING OF THROATS will take place before and after all week end masses
this week end in Kilmoganny, Tullahought, Windgap and Dunamaggan.
DUNAMAGGAN
G.A.A. CLUB WILL HOLD REGISTRATION DAYS on the weekend of 9th
& 10th February after mass in each of the churches. The
registrations will take place as follows: In Kilmoganny on Saturday 9th
February in the front room of St. Eoghan’s Centre at 7.30 p.m.; In Dunamaggan
on Sunday 10th February at 11.30 a.m. in St. Leonard’s Hall,
Dunamaggan and in Kells in the Scouts Hall/Community Hall at 12.00 noon on
Sunday 10th February. Parents of juvenile are asked to register
their children on these days. All adult Club members are also encouraged to
attend these registration days. The annual club membership rates are as
follows: Family membership €160; Juveniles from 4 years
to 16 years €40; Juveniles 17 – 18 years €50; Adult players €150; Student Adult
Players €80: Adult membership €50. All players, juvenile and senior, are
reminded that they must be registered before taking part in games. All juvenile
Footballers must now comply with the new rules of having a gum shield before
taking part in games.
KELLS
HANDBALL CLUB: The County Gael Linn U 13 Mixed
Doubles Trials took place with Kells Eoin Brennan and Kerrianne Power defeating
Robert Dowling and Noelle Dowling (Mothel) and Jack Barcoe and Caoimhe Kelly
(Kilfane) and so qualify to represent Kilkenny in the Leinster Gael Linn
competition. In Leinster, Eoin Brennan
and Kerrianne Power (Kells) travelled to Leixlip, Co. Kildare and defeated Meath, (Sarah Gillick/Kyle Cussen)
and Carlow (Cormac O’Brien/Laura Donovan) to reach the final. Unfortunately, they were defeated by Meath
(Emily Sheridan/Daniel Farrelly) in the final, after a great display of
handball from both of them on the day. Congrats to Eoin and Kerrianne on a
great achievement.
In the Adult
County 40 x 20 championships Senior Singles Peter Funchion (Kells) got a
walkover from Eddie Bourke (O’Loughlin’s) and Ger McGrath (Kells) got a walkover from Eamonn Hawe (Windgap),
In the Leinster
Adult 40 x 20 Championships in the Golden Masters B Singles Pat Funchion
(Kells) defeated Niall Leavy (Kildare) in the 3rd game; in the Junior Singles
Pat O’Donnell (Wicklow) defeated Ger McGrath (Kells) also in the 3rd game and
Brendan Burke (Kells) got a walkover from Brian Doherty (Offaly); in the Minor
Singles J.J. English (Goresbridge) defeated Brendan Hyland (Kilkenny) in 2
games; in the Under 21 singles Sean Foley (Windgap) received a walkover
from Stephen O’Dwyer (Kells); in the Junior
B Doubles Dan Breen/Fergal Lalor(Kilkenny) due to injury gave a walkover to
Andrew Dowling/Peter Whelan (Laois).
Kells Handball
Club held their A.G.M. and there was a very good attendance. The secretary
expressed her thanks to everyone who attended the A.G.M. The elected officers for the coming year are:
Chairperson Michael Delahunty, Vice Chairperson Tom McGrath, Secretary Betty
Funchion, Treasurer Jim Dalton, Juvenile Officer Brigid Burke and PRO Dan
Breen.
DROICHEAD
FAMILY RESOURCE CENTRE, CALLAN
has a number of activities commencing in the coming weeks. These include (1) a group of men have come together and are
planning on renovating an old horse’s trap and an old wooden butter churn in
Droichead Family Resource Centre (The Friary). If you are interested in getting
involved in this project, please call 056 77 555 19 Ext 1. (2) An open music,
song & dance session which will take place in Droichead Family Resource
Centre (The Friary) every Friday afternoon for the older folk in Callan and
surrounding area. This session will begin on February 8th from 2.00
p.m. – 4.00 p.m. All are welcome to join in on the session and have a bit of
craic. Admission will be €2 per person. Tea and Coffee will be available. (3) A Basic Car Mechanics
Course: Do you want to know the basics about your car? Check your car for oil
/water /tyre pressure. Change bulbs/wiper blades. Etc. This is a once off
course that will be held on Thursday Jan 31st from 6.00 p.m. - 8.00 p.m..
The course will cost €10 per person. Please call Droichead FRC to book a place.
(4) A D.I.Y Course will begin on Thursday evening, February 21st
from 6.00 p.m. – 8.00 p.m.. It will take place over 6 Thursday evenings and the
topics covered include: woodwork, plumbing, decorating, picture hanging and
room measuring. This course will cost €30 per person. (5) Absolute
Beginners Computer Course: Morning and Evening
