THE
SHRUGHAWADDA PLAYERS will stage Hugh Leonard’s Da in St. Eoghan’s Centre,
Kilmoganny from Tuesday February 19th to Friday February 22nd.
Tickets are available from Kilmoganny P.O., Pete Moran’s and Dunphy’s in
Kilmoganny. Early booking is advisable as the Shrughawadda Players usually
attract full houses each night.

DUNAMAGGAN
G.A.A. CLUB WILL HOLD REGISTRATION DAYS on this weekend 9th &
10th February after mass in each of the churches. The registrations
will take place as follows: In Kilmoganny on Saturday 9th February
in the front room of St. Eoghan’s Centre at 7.30 p.m.; In Dunamaggan on Sunday
10th February at 11.30 a.m. in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan and in
Kells in the Scouts Hall/Community Hall at 12.00 noon on Sunday 10th
February. Parents of juvenile are asked to register their children on these
days. All adult Club members are also encouraged to attend these registration
days. The annual club membership rates are as follows: Family
membership €160; Juveniles from 4 years to 16 years €40; Juveniles 17 – 18
years €50; Adult players €150; Student Adult Players €80: Adult membership €50.
All players, juvenile and senior, are reminded that they must be registered
before taking part in games. All juvenile Footballers must now comply with the
new rules of having a gum shield before taking part in games.
THE KILMOGANNY
SENIOR FOOTBALLERS MADE A WINNING START TO THE SEASON by defeating the Railyard on a score-line of Kilmoganny 3 – 5 to Railyard 1 – 8 on a sunny Saturday afternoon in St. James’s
Park, Kilkenny.
The first half was a low scoring affair with Railyard
registering 0 -4 and Kilmoganny having a single score from Captain Kenny Moore
but it was a well taken goal. This left the minimum between the sided at half
time. Railyard 0 - 4 to Kilmoganny1 – 0.
Kilmoganny told control in the second half and goals from
Darren Fitzpatrick and Paddy Delaney helped Kilmoganny to a comfortable
lead. Railyard fought back and got a goal in last 5 minutes to close
the gap but Kilmoganny hung on to win by 3 points. In all five of the
Kilmoganny forwards scored. Overall it was a great team effort. Next weekend
the opponents are Mullinavat who will be very anxious to register a win as they
suffered a defeat to Dicksboro last weekend.

HANDBALL CLUB: In the Adult County 40 x 20 championships in the Senior B Singles
Brendan Burke (Kells) defeated Ger Anthony (Mullinavat); in the Senior Doubles Peter Funchion and Patrick Funchion (Kells) defeated Eamonn Hawe/Philip Lonergan (Windgap); in the Junior
Singles Stephen O’Dwyer (Kells) defeated P.J. Barron (Windgap).
In the Leinster
Adult 40 x 20 championships in the Junior Doubles Ger McGrath (Kells) and Ciaran
Neary (Talbot’s Inch) defeated Pat O’Donnell and James Gregan (Wicklow); in the
Junior B Doubles Diarmuid Burke (Kells) and Ger Anthony (Mullinavat) defeated
Colin Melody and Danny Reilly (Dublin).
In the Men’s Open
Senior Doubles Patrick Funchion and Peter Funchion (Kells) defeated James
Gregan and Pat O’Donnell (Wicklow).
A COMMUNITY ALERT MEETING was held in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan on
last Thursday evening 31st January. Due to a number of break-ins and
robberies in the surrounding areas in recent times the meeting was called. Over
sixty attended the meeting which was chaired by Philip Brennan and John
Holden was secretary. Garda Edel Fitzgerald and Garda David Gordon addressed
the meeting. The following is a summary of some of the main points raised at
the meeting: (1) If any person notices a car that seems suspicious the person
is asked to take the number and phone the Gardaí in Thomastown; (2) All people
are asked to be aware of strangers and report suspicious behavior to Gardaí
such as strangers walking in fields with dogs; (3) The possibility of using
Text alert to contact people was discussed and those present gave their
permission for such messages to be sent to them; (4) Elderly and relatives of
elderly are asked to contact John Holden or Philip Brennan re the provision of Community
Alert Phones for the elderly; (5) Owners of machinery and vehicles were
encouraged to have a personalized mark on machines and vehicles; (6) A method
of making locks more secure was demonstrated at the meeting. It was agreed to
have a follow up meeting on Monday 4th. Any additional information
from this meeting will be published next week.
ASH WEDNESDAY the beginning of Lent
is next Wednesday13th February. Masses and the distribution of ashes
will take place at the following times in Dunamaggan Parish: in St. Leonard’s
Church, Dunamaggan at 9.30 a.m.; in St. Joseph’s Home, Kilmoganny 12.10 p.m.; and in St. Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny 7.30
p.m.
ART CLASSES RESUME in St. Leonard’s
Hall, Dunamaggan on next Monday 11th February at 7.00 p.m. The
classes were a great success before the Christmas break. It is expected that
the enthusiasm for artistic endeavor will continue during this term.
