THE ANNUAL PAT WALSH MEMORIAL PARADE will take place in Dunamaggan next Sunday, Easter Sunday. The celebrations commence with the 11.00 a.m. mass in St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan which will be followed by the Parade. The guest speaker this year is John McGuinness T.D., chairman of the Dáil Public Accounts Committee. The evening concludes with a Cabaret in O’Dwyer’s at 9.00 p.m. from which the proceeds will go to the Dunamaggan G.A.A. club and the committee. This Easter Sunday Parade is one of the longest established Parades in the country and your support is very welcome so as to ensure that it continues and is still part of the local celebrations in 2016 and 2021 when it celebrates historic centuries of Irish History.

HURLING TRAINING RESUMES FOR JUVENILES U 6, U 8 and U 10 members of Dunamaggan Hurling Club was postponed last Saturday due to the un-clement weather. It will now commence on next Saturday 30th March at 2.00 p.m. weather permitting.
THE DUNNAMAGGAN FÉILE SKILL COMPETITION was held last Sunday afternoon. Congratulations to Robbie McCauley who was the eventual winner of the Dunnamaggin G.A.A. Féile skills competition. Well done to all who took part on the day in bitter cold conditions. A special thanks to Tonnie Moore from the Hurley Depot who sponsored the winner’s prize. Robbie will now go on to the Co-finals on the Easter weekend. Participants on the day had to display a number of skills such as ground striking, free taking, jab lift and strike, ground cut, ball control and long puck. Those who participated on the day were:- Dylan Crehan, Eddie Dunne, Jamie O'Keeffe, Rory Lodge, Conor Hoban, Killian Lafford, Jamie McLoughlin, Cathal Ryan, Ian Walsh, Robbie McCauley, Darragh O'Keeffe, Harry Walsh and Conor Lawlor . DUNANAGGAN HURLING CLUB LAUNCHED ITS DEVELOPMENT PLAN last Friday 22nd March in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan. County Board Chairman, Ned Quinn, launched the five year Club Plan. Ned Quinn in his address complemented the club on its detailed Club Plan. He also complemented the Club on its contribution to Kilkenny Hurling and noted in particular the presence of three players on last September’s All Ireland winning team, William Phelan winning his first medal, David Herity his fourth medal and Noel Hickey on winning a record ninth medal. This record which he shares with fellow Kilkenny men Henry Shefflin and Noel Skeehan. Club Chairman, John Hickey, gave an inspiring address to the large gathering in the Hall and thanked all who worked so hard in developing the Plan and all those who in any way contribute to the Club. He had a special word of thanks for Mary Moylan and her team who provided the catering on the night. Dennis Walsh who chaired the Committee gave a presentation of the main items in the plan which covers all aspects of club life and development. He also stressed that the Plan is a living Plan which will evolve and develop. John Comerford, County Board, who attended and facilitated the first planning meeting, complemented the Club on its prompt production of the Plan since that meeting. Stephen Gilmore was thanked for his design and layout of the Plan in printed format.
EASTER CEREMONIES WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE FOLLOWING TIMES IN CHURCHES THIS EASTER. This is the first year that Dunamaggan and Windgap Parishes are served by one priest. Thus the timetable of Holy Week Ceremonies has been changed from previous years. The ceremonies this year are as follows: On Holy Thursday 28th March: In St. Nicholas’ Church Windgap at 7.00 p.m. and in St. Leonard’s Church Dunamaggan at 8.00 p.m.
On Good Friday 29th March: In St. Nicholas’ Church Windgap at 2.00 p.m.; in St. Leonard’s Church Dunamaggan at 3.15 p.m.; In St. Eoghan’s Church Kilmoganny at 7.00 p.m. and in St. Nicholas’ Church Tullahought at 8.00 p.m. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be celebrated in Churches on Good Friday.
On Holy Saturday 30th March: In St. Eoghan’s Church Kilmoganny at 6.45 p.m.; in St. Nicholas’ Church Windgap at 7.45 p.m. and in St. Leonard’s Church Dunamaggan at 9.00 p.m.
On Easter Sunday 31st March masses will be celebrated at the usual Sunday Morning times. In Dunamaggan on Easter Sunday the Annual Pat Walsh Commemoration will begin with 11.00 a.m. mass and will be followed by the Annual Parade and Cabaret on Easter Sunday night.
THE NEXT MEETING RE THE HISTORY OF DUNAMAGGAN will take place on Tuesday next 2nd April in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny. Any information or old photographs of the villages of Kells, Dunamaggan and Kilmoganny from the past century would be very welcome. The committee would welcome any old material of historical value in particular relating to the cultural and social way of life in the community.
PREPARATIONS ARE UNDERWAY FOR THE JUNE VARIETY CONCERT in aid of St. Eoghan’s School, Kilmoganny which takes place on the Saturday of the June bank holiday weekend. In addition preparations are beginning for a celebration of Music and Home-coming for the August Bank Holiday weekend.
THE ANNUAL GOOD FRIDAY PROGRESSIVE 25’s will take place in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny on this Friday 29th March at 8.30 p.m. As players who play 25’s are invited to the event.
KELLS HANDBALL CLUB: In the Leinster Adult 40 x 20 Championships in the Junior Singles Brendan Burke (Kells) defeated Shane Hennelly (Dublin) but was beaten in the semi-final by William Love (Clogh); in the Golden Masters B Singles Pat Funchion (Kells) received a walkover from Richie Culleton (Wexford); in the Junior B Doubles Diarmuid Burke (Kells)/Ger Anthony (Mullinavat) defeated Stuart Heslin/Alan Smyth (Louth) but were defeated in the semi-final by Peter Whelan and Andrew Dowling (Laois); in the Golden Masters B Doubles semi-final Paddy Fennelly and Pat Funchion (Kells) were defeated by Richie Culleton/John Bail (Wexford); in the Ladies Junior Doubles semi-final Marie Walshe (Kells) and Rachel Hogan (Kilfane) defeated Tanya O’Toole/Una Byrne (Wexford) and in the Final they defeated Una Wrynn/Ellen O’Connor (Kildare); in the Junior Doubles semi-final Ger McGrath (Kells) and Ciaran Neary (Talbot’s Inch) were defeated by Noel Murphy/Michael O’Brien (Offaly); in the U 21 Singles Final Peter Funchion defeated Shane Walsh (Windgap); in the U 21 Doubles Final Peter Funchion (Kells) and Sean Butler (Talbot’s Inch) defeated Eoghan Hennessy/Pauric Maher (Clogh).
In the Juvenile All Ireland Semi Finals in the U 14 Singles Conor Murphy (Kells) defeated Diarmuid Mulkerrins (Galway).
In the first round of the Juvenile 40 x 20 U 12/13 Team 6 representing Kilkenny were Dylan Crehan (Kells), Mickey Prendergast (Kells), Eoin Brennan (Kells), Ciaran Cooney (Clogh), Eamonn Brennan (Clogh), Davy Blanchfield (Kilfane), Jack Holden (Kilfane), Jack Hayes (Windgap) and they defeated Dublin, and the U 14/15 Team 6 of Roy Cullen (Kells), Conor Condon (Kells), Eoin Regan (Clogh), Aidan Barry (Clogh), Marc Purcell (Clogh), Dean Farrell (Mothel), Dion Bourke (Mothel) and James Culleton (Windgap) got a walkover from Dublin.
In the Boys U 13 B Singles Conor Hoban (Kells) fought off stiff opposition in a large group of players to reach the final and defeat Padraig O’Neill (Goresbridge).
