County Championships
Peter Funchion won the county 40x20 Senior Singles title. In the final he beat Mens C World champion and newly crowned Junior All Ireland champion William Love from Clogh.
Conor Hoban picked up the U13 B County singles title coming through a large field to defeat Goresbridge in the final and Killian Lafford also won the U14 B Singles title defeating Rory Lodge in the final. In U12 Doubles Dylan Crehan/Michael Prendergast, U13 Singles Eoin Brennan, U14 Singles Conor Murphy, U15 Doubles Roy Cullen/Jack Crehan, U16 Girls Singles Kirsty Maher and U17 Girls Doubles Karen Walshe/Sarah Molloy were all crowned Champions. Roy Cullen lost in the U15 Singles final. Well done to all
Gael Linn
Eoin Brennan & Kerrianne Power won the county 40x20 Gael Linn U13 Mixed Doubles in O'Loughlins and thus qualified for Leinster. In the Leinster Gael Linn competition Eoin and Kerriannetravelled to Leixlip, Co. Kildare and defeated Meath and Carlow to reach the final. Unfortunately, they were defeated by Meath in the final, after a great display of handball from both of them on the day
Leinster Juvenile
Kells had three wins in the juvenile leinster finals held over the weekend of March 10th. Eoin Brennan won the U13 Singles, Conor Murphy won the U14 Singles and Kirsty Maher picked up the GU16 Singles. Karen Walshe lost out in the GU17 singles final. Kilkenny U12/13 & U14/15 Teams both reached Leinster finals. Unfortunetly they lost out in their respective Leinster finals in early April. On the U12/13 team Kells had Eoin Brennan, Michael Prendergast and Dylan Crehan and on the U14/15 team were Roy Cullen and Conor Condon, well done to the lads on reaching Leinster finals
Leinster Adult
Peter Funchion claimed three Leinster titles in early 2013. First he won the Leinster Open Singles title and followed this up by winning the U21 Singles title and teamed up with Sean Butler (Talbots Inch) to win the Leinster U21 Doubles title. Marie Walshe and Rachel Hogan (Kilfane) won the Ladies Junior Doubles title
All Ireland 40x20
Conor Murphy reached the U14 Singles final. After winning county and provincial honours Conor travelled to Moycullen to take on Diarmuid Mulkerrins in his home alley in the all ireland semi final and defeated him in the tie break. Up against the World Champion from Cashel Colin Ryan, Conor came up just short and claimed silver. Well done on a great journey the whole club is extremely proud. Marie Walshe (Kells) and Rachel Hogan (Kilfane) won the All Ireland gold in Cappagh defeating Galway in the Ladies Junior Doubles final. They won in two straight games 21-9, 21-12. This is a great win for them having won the Junior B title in 2012. Well done to the two of them who now move up to the Intermediate grade next season
Adult Irish 40 x 20 Nationals
Peter Funchion and Dan Breen lost in the quarter finals of their respective grades in the 40x20 Irish Nationals in Kingscourt. Peter lost to Brian Carroll (Meath) in Mens Open and Dan was defeated by Anthony Crotty (Tipperary) in the Under 23 B
WIT's all conquering handball team of Patrick Funchion, Peter Funchion, Ger McGrath and Noel Holohan (Wexford) were honoured at WIT's GAA Awards night recently. This team made up of the three Kells lads won the first ever 40x20 and 60x30 Colleges All Ireland double. Congratulations also to John Fitzgerald was a member of the Thomastown panel that won the All Ireland Junior Club Championship in Croke Park beating Fullen Gaels in the final
