SCHOOLS DOUBLE WIN: Dunamaggan Schools Hurling Team had a double win last week. In the Tommy O' Brien Final the result was Dunnamaggin 2 - 12 to Mullinavat 1 – 2. The Dunnamaggin schools team enjoyed a good victory over Mullinavat in the Tommy O' Brien Cup Final. Dunnamaggin got off to a great start with two points from Darragh O'Keefe and one from Alex Moore. Soon after that Darragh O’Keefe ran through the Mullinavat defence before finishing to the back of the net. Dunnamaggin continued to pile on the pressure for the rest of the half and added further points with a goal coming from Adam Fitzpatrick. At half time the score was Dunnamaggin 2 - 7 Mullinavat 0 - 1. In the second half Dunnamaggin stretched their lead with Sean O'Keefe getting in on the scoring with a point. Mullinavat got a consolation goal near the end. All players in the squad got a chance to play some part in the game. Dylan Crehan was captain for the day and lifted the Cup.
Two days later in the Roinn C Final in Nolan Park the score line was: Dunnamaggin 4 – 4 to Glenmore 1 – 2. Thus a great week for the schools team was completed when they won the Roinn C final. This was their most competitive game of the year but in the end Dunnamaggin's ability to score goals proved the difference. Having missed the Tommy O' Brien Cup through injury Eddie Dunne returned as captain to play at full forward. Eddie got two early goals to set the team on their way. Despite the fact that Glenmore were winning a lot of possession the Dunnamaggin defence was excellent and Glenmore could not break it down. At half time the score was 2 - 2 to no score. The second half followed a similar pattern to the first with Glenmore getting plenty of the ball into their forwards but being unable to penetrate the Dunnamaggin defence. Eddie Dunne and Dylan Wall added two more goals. In the final minutes Glenmore had plenty of shots on goal but Dylan Carroll pulled off some brilliant saves. Eddie Dunne lifted the Cup to complete a memorable double. Well done to all the boys from the three local schools on going through their year unbeaten.
