CELEBRATION OF FAMILY: The annual celebration of Family and Welcome will take place on Thursday 25th July at 7.30 p.m. This year’s celebration will begin with mass at the site of the ancient Mass Tree on the land of Tom Phelan, Dunamaggan. Entry to the location is through the farmyard of Tom Phelan. This is one of the many historic sites in the Parish of Dunamaggan. Following the celebration of mass there will be the usual picnic, chat, music and get-together around the camp fire in the grounds of St. Leonard’s Church. Children are especially welcome to the celebration as are all parish members especially those who are new to the parish.

BUS TO SECONDARY SCHOOLS: The lack of busses at suitable times for children who wish to attend secondary schools in Kilkenny has prompted parents to enquire as to the feasibility of such a service for next September. The proposed pick up points would be Windgap, Kilmoganny, Dunamaggan and Kells. The proposed cost is €2 per trip and you pay as you go. For further information contact Dermot Ronan, Ronan Coaches at 087 – 2076844.

LEINSTER CHAMPIONS: Congratulations to the local Community Games U 11 hurling team – Aghaviller - which won the Leinster Final on Saturday last in Longford. Community Games are organised on an area basis and the Aghaviller area includes Dunamaggan, Carrickshock and Ballyhale. Previously they had to travel to Craanford in Wexford on 22nd June where we won the quarter final on a scoreline of 5 -5 to 2 points. They had the luck of the draw for the provincial finals, as there were three teams and Aghaviller got a bye to the final. On the other side of the draw were Shinrone/Coolderry of Offaly and Knocklyon of Dublin. The Offaly team, (who were the reigning All Ireland champions) won this first game easily and claimed their place in the final against Aghaviller. In the Final Aghaviller got off to a good start with an early goal from Dylan Carroll and then added a couple of points in the first quarter. Even though they were creating many chances, not all were being converted into scores. When Shinrone/Coolderry scored a goal ten minutes before half time, there was very little between the sides. Aghaviller continued to press however and when Denis Walsh goaled around the 15 minute mark, followed by an Aidan O’ Neill goal after a classy ground stroke, Aghaviller had some much needed breathing space at half time when they lead on a score of 3 – 4 to 1 – 2. Aghaviller started the second half as they had played the first, applying lots of pressure and the fight seemed to drain out of the opposition. The Aghaviller inside back line of Jimmy O’ Neill, Dara Mason and Tomas Barron stood tall with great support play from our excellent half back line of Jack McGuirk, Padraig Lennon and Mason Byrnes. Aghaviller pressed home their advantage and some strong hurling by Darragh Walsh and Conor Denny was followed up with some great scores from Denis Walsh, Eoin Crowley and Shaun O’ Keeffe. With the excellent Killian Corcoran controlling matters at midfield, Oisin Doyle, Colin Fitzpatrick, Adam Long and Shane Fennelly all joined the fray and hurled very well to ensure a strong finish by Aghaviller. Joe Fitzpatrick, who had an excellent game in goal, was replaced by Ryan Grace who made one brilliant save as the game neared the end and Aghaviller eventually ran out easy winners in the end on a scoreline of 6 – 8 to 1 – 4. The following is the full panel of players, all of whom played in the Leinster Final; Joe Fitzpatrick, Jimmy O’ Neill, Denis Walsh, Dylan Carroll, Conor Denny, Shaun O’ Keeffe, Dara Walsh, Aidan O’ Neill, Colin Fitzpatrick, (Dunnamaggin), Mason Byrnes, Padraig Lennon, Jack McGurk, Eoin Crowley, Adam Long, Shane Fennelly, Ryan Grace, Oisin Doyle, (Carrickshock), Dara Mason, Tomas Barron, Killian Corcoran (Ballyhale).
