The Dunamaggan Parish Dinner Dance will take place on Saturday 22nd January at 8.00 p.m. in the Ormond Hotel Kilkenny. Tickets at €35 are still available from James Rossiter, Tom & John Hickey, Tonnie Moore, Patricia Coffey, Denis Walsh, Seamus Knox, Johno Reid, John O’Dwyer and Rachel O’Connor.

The Dunamaggan Parish Pastoral Council at its meeting on Tuesday 4th January, which was attended by Revs. John Hanna & Derek Meskell, Redemptorists, who will conduct the Parish Mission from Sunday February 27th – Saturday March 5th discussed the framework of the mission.
During the Parish Mission mass will be celebrated from Monday – Friday at 7.00 a.m. in St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan and at 10.00 a.m. in St. Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny. The evening mission sessions will be held in St. Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny at 7.00 p.m. and in St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan at 8.00 p.m. each evening from Sunday 27th to Friday 4th March.
During Sunday morning mass at 11.00 a.m. on 27th February there will be a special blessing of babies and young children. The anointing and blessing of the Sick will take place in St. Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny on Saturday 5th March during mass at 11.00 a.m. The mission will conclude with masses on Saturday 5th March.
The Chairperson of the Pastoral Council, Ned Kirwan, stated that many volunteers will be required to assist with the mission both prior to the mission and during the mission. Assistance will be required with publicity related to the mission, the distribution of material relating to the mission, short dramas which will present gospel messages, singing, etc. He stated that assistance for volunteers however small or great would be greatly appreciated. The Pastoral Council has its next meeting on next Tuesday 18th January.

Comedy in Kilmoganny: The Shrughawadda Players stage their first comedy in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny from Next Tuesday 18th January to Friday 21st January at 8.00 p.m. sharp each evening. All patrons are requested to be in their seats 15 minutes before the start. There will be no admission during the performance. Tickets are €10 each with concessions for OAP on Tuesday night only of €7. Tickets are available from Kilmoganny P.O. 051 – 648001; Pete Moran’s 051 – 648283 and Dunphy’s 051 – 648252. Due to the very high standard of previous dramas staged by the Shrughawadda Players it is advisable to book early so as to avoid disappointment.

Kilmoganny Football Club had a very well attended A.G.M. last Friday evening. Chairman, Andrew O’Neill, in his address congratulated the U 14 team on winning the League final, the Minor teams on achieving a treble of wins by winning the 2008 and 2009 finals last Spring. The U 16 team is awaiting its final as it was postponed. He was critical of the County Board in not granting the request for a postponement of its championship match against James Stephens. He stated that there were plenty of occasions during summer when the game could have been played. On the date it was fixed for it coincided with a very tragic funeral in Dunamaggan of Ted Townsend, Son of the Club’s Main Sponsor for many years.
He thanked Christie Walsh for his management of the team for the past two years and to all others who helped in any way with the club.

Dunamaggan Hurling Club held a well attended A.G.M. in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan on last Friday at 8.00 p.m. Seamus Knox, Chairperson, thanked all who helped in any way with club activities during the past year. He thanked the Profile Committee under the leadership of James Rossiter for developing the Website DKK.ie, holding a very successful parish dinner-dance and open day. He thanked all who have supported the Club Fundraising, Joe Coyne for the organizing a successful Darts Night, Michael Murphy and his team for organizing the Golf Classis and all who supported it. The next stage of the Club’s 5 year development Plan will involve the provision of facilities in Kilmoganny. This work, he stated is a priority for the coming year. He thanked Christie Walsh for his senior management of the team for the past two years, his fellow selectors Tom McCormack and Willie Kearney, the players for their dedication. He thanked Canice Hickey, Mark Heffernan and Willie Kearney for their work with the U 21 team. He thanked all for their co-operation during the past few years. He stated that he was not going forward for the position this year.
Secretary, Eugene O’Donovan, thanked all who assisted with club activities during the past year. He reviewed the events of the past year both on and off the field. The club development programme was a major undertaking. He thanked all who contributed to the fundraising drive in any way as their efforts have ensured that the club is not in debt at the A.G.M. He also stated that a list of all All-Ireland Winners in all grades was being compiled as part of the club’s contribution to the forthcoming Parish History. He requested that anyone who knows any past winners to contact any club official as soon as possible. He also thanked all those who contributed to the DKK lotto during the past 14 years as this has been a significant source of income to the club.
Niall McCormack gave a comprehensive treasurers report and reported a slight surplus for the year which almost eliminated the current deficit. The field development account had a modest surplus at the end of the year. He added that major expenditure would be required over the next few years.

In the discussion at the meeting there was criticism of the decision not to locate the U 21 Championship match between Dunamaggan & Kilmacow at a venue central to both clubs. The membership for the current year was fixed at €250 for senior players (this included a Piltown ticket and insurance cover) and €80 (including insurance cover) for senior players up to 22 years of age. The membership for adult not players is €50.
