Dunamaggan Juvenile G.A.A. Club and St. Leonard’s School, Dunamaggan have each won a competition for a Free Team Kit. To claim their prizes both the School and the Club needs to Collect 250 Masterheads each from The Star Daily or Sunday Newspaper dated between 20th January and 3rd February. The Masterheads must include the Star Logo, Date and Bar Code. This means that a total of 500 Masterheads are required. You are asked to collect them and you may leave them into Bob’s Shop in Kells, Kilmoganny P.O., Carroll’s in Knocktopher, St. Leonard’s School in Dunamaggan or give them to Maura Long. Please ask your family, friends, co-workers, college classmates, neighbours, etc to save the Masterheads for you. Your support is essential.

The next meeting re the History of Dunamaggan will take place on Monday 7th February at 8.00 p.m. in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny. Anyone with documents, photographs or items of historical interest which they believe should be included in the publication are asked to make the material available to the group. Anyone who wishes is free to attend the meeting.

Lucy Proctor formally of Caherleske, died peacefully in St. Columba’s Hospital, Thomastown on 23rd January. She was aged 92 years and lived out her life in Caherleske except for the last number of years where she was in the care of the staff of St. Columba’s Hospital. She is survived by her son, Pat, grand-daughters Colette and Louise. Her remains were received at St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan on Monday evening by Rev. Nicholas Flavin P.P. The mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Tuesday by Rev. Nicholas Flavin with Rev. William Dalton as con-celebrant. Members of the family read the readings and prayers of the faithful and presented gifts and symbols at the offertory. The music and singing at mass was by Dolce. She was laid to rest in Kilmoganny Cemetery. May she rest in peace.

A meeting will take place in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan on next Friday 4th February at 8.00 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss innovative methods of fundraising for projects in the parish. All those who have innovative ideas about fund-raising are invited to attend.

The Blessing of throats will take place on the feast of St. Blaize, Thursday February 3rd. The blessing will take place during masses in St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan at 9.30 a.m., in St. Joseph’s Home, Kilmoganny at 12.10 p.m. and in St. Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny at 7.00 p.m.

Dunamaggan Juvenile G.A.A. Club will hold its A.G.M. on Friday week 11th February in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan at 7.00 p.m. All parents of Juvenile players and those interested in Juvenile Football and Hurling are invited to attend.

Jim Byrne, Dunamaggan, died unexpectantly on Wednesday last in his home. He is survived by his wife, Velma, sons John and James and daughter Joanna. Prayers were recited in Molloy’s Funeral Home in Callan by Rev. Nicholas Flavin P.P. prior to his removal to Dublin for cremation. His burial will take place at a later date. May he rest in peace.

Congratulations to Louise Maher, Kells on qualifying for the Irish Ladies Pool Team which will take part in the European Championships in Malta later this year. Louise, like all members of the team have to fund their travel to the event. She had a successful table quiz in Shirley’s Kells last Saturday and wishes to thank all who sponsored prizes and supported the event.
