DUNAMAGGAN JUVENILE G.A.A. CLUB held its A.G.M. in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan on last Friday 17th January 2014. Chairperson, John Fitzpatrick, welcomed a very large attendance to the A.G.M.. He thanked all who gave of their time generously to Club activities during the past year. He thanked especially the numerous mentors of all teams, the players and their parents, those who looked after first aid and those who ensured that the pitches were at all times marked for matches. He also thanked the great supporters of the club. He also thanked all the officers of the club especially secretary, Dennis Walsh, and treasurer, Jackie Kennedy, for their dedication during the past year. He congratulated all the teams on their great effort during the past year and congratulated the Minor Team on winning the League and Championship double and also on reaching the football final. The secretary, Dennis Walsh, in his report outlined the clubs achievements in all grades. He complemented all those who had attended and achieved recognition as coaches at various levels. He also stated that a number of club mentors will again participated in coach training during the coming year. Tom Hickey, Coaching Coordinator, outlined the targets to be achieved in coaching at each age group. In her report as Treasurer, Jackie Kennedy, showed that the club is in a healthy financial position. Jackie Kennedy was thanked for her great work in putting together the 2014 calendar which also yielded a good financial return. The Chairman also thanked Francie Hughes for his sponsorship of the Juvenile Club.

The Chairperson also outlined the Respect Initiative which the Club will be fostering during the coming year. He emphasised the importance of respect for Referees, mentors and players. He also emphasises the importance of all team members concentrating at all times on the task of playing the game to their full potential and that this involved respecting match officials.
It was also stressed that all players need to be registered so that proper insurance cover is in place. A discussion took place on the recruitment and retention of players. Arising from the discussion practical steps will be taken by the new executive.
The following Coaches are appointed but others may be added to the list: U 6: Tom Hickey, Mick Lyons, James Moylan and Kevin O’Neill U 8: James Rossiter, Jim Hickey, Colm Deegan, Philip Tallon, Padraig Lawton, John Hayes and John Kinsella. U 10: John Fitzpatrick, Dishy Walsh, Robbie Lodge, Stephen Gilmore and John Walsh. U 12: P. J. O’Keeffe, Richie O’Neill, Jim Hickey and Dishy Walsh; U 14: Canice Hickey, Owen Dunne, Dishy Walsh and P. J. O’Keeffe. U 16: Mark Heffernan, Andrew Hickey and Larry Costello; U 18: Eamonn Kennedy, John Fitzpatrick, Willie Kearney and Seaghain O’Neill. The U 6 – U 12 are hurling, the U 14 – U 18 are Hurling and Football.
KELLS HANDBALL CLUB: The County Juvenile 40 x 20 championships started with the girls singles and representing Kells in the U 12 Singles were Olivia Mahoney and Meg Ryan, in the U 13 Singles were Laura Condon and Hannah Lodge, in the U 14 Singles was Kate Cowhig, in the U 16 Singles was Aoife Walsh and in the U 17 Singles were Karen Walshe and Sarah Molloy who met each other in the final with Karen Walshe the eventual winner. In the Boys U 12 Singles was Joe Cowhig, in the U 13 Singles were Mikey Prendergast and Dylan Crehan, in the U 14 Singles were Conor Hoban and Eoin Brennan, in the U 15 Singles Cillian Lafford and Conor Condon and Conor won out in the final, in the U 16 Singles were Conor Murphy and Roy Cullen and in the U 17 Singles was Jack Crehan. Congratulations and well done to all.
HISTORY OF DUNAMAGGAN GROUP will hold their next meeting in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny on Tuesday next 28th January at 8.00 p.m. If anyone has historical documents or are aware of any local areas or events of Historical Importance they are asked to attend the meeting or contact any member of the Group.
MASS FOR CHILDREN who will receive their Frist Holy Communion next May will be celebrated in St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan on Sunday next26th January at 11.00 a.m.
MICHAEL O’DWYER whose untimely and tragic death occurred in Tramore about two weeks ago was laid to rest in St. Kieran’s Cemetery, Kilkenny on Monday 13th January 2014 beside his father Eddie (Blackie) who passed away about two and a half years ago. He is survived by his mother, Geraldine and brothers Alan, Paul, David and Conor. He reposed at his home in Baunreagh were prayers were led by Rev. Nicholas Flavin P.P. on Sunday evening and on Monday Morning before his remains were removed to St. John’s Church in Kilkenny for 12.00 noon mass. His remains were received by Rev. Frank Purcell P.P. St. John’s. The chief celebrant at the concelebrated mass was Rev. Nicholas Flavin P.P. Dunamaggan assisted by Revs. Frank Purcell, Richard Scriven and Paddy Carey. The church was full to capacity for the mass. Relatives and family members read the readings and prayers of the faithful and presented the gifts at the offertory. May he rest in peace.
