KILMOGANNY BRIDGE CLUB:  Results of 29th January: The winning pair was Emer Wallace and Mat McDermott. Bridge every Wednesday at 8.00 p.m. in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny. New members are always welcome. It is not essential to have a partner.

KELLS HANDBALL CLUB: The Adult 40 x 20 Leinster Championships are well under way and in the Junior B Singles Diarmuid Burke (Kells) defeated Sam Temple (Kildare) and Kevin Barrett (Carlow) and Anthony Martin (Kells) defeated Padraic Roberts (Wexford), in the Junior Singles Peter Whelan (Laois) defeated Brendan Burke (Kells) in a closely fought 3rd game; in the Junior Doubles Ciaran Neary (Talbot’s Inch)/Brendan Burke (Kells) defeated Chris Doyle/James Gregan (Wicklow) and  Darragh Ward/Maurice Murray (Kildare); in the Ladies Intermediate Singles Aoife McCarthy (Westmeath)  defeated Marie Walsh (Kells); in the Senior Doubles Peter and Patrick Funchion (Kells)  defeated  Niall O’Connor/Paul Moran (Kildare) and in the Intermediate Singles Patrick Funchion (Kells) defeated John O’Shaughnessy (Westmeath). The County Juvenile 40 x 20 championships continued over the weekend and representing Kells in the Boys U 10 Singles were Michael Thomas and Jim Power; in the Boys U 11 Singles were Padraig Lennon and Shaun O’Keeffe; in the Girls U 10 Singles was Sonya Stanley.  They all played well but were unlucky not to reach the finals. In the Boys U 10 Doubles were Jim Power and Emmet Nolan; in the Girls U 10 Doubles were Sonya Stanley and Sal Ryan and in the Boys U 11 Doubles were Padraig Lennon/Shaun O’Keeffe and John O’Brien/Matthew O’Sullivan. Padraig and Shaun had a great game in the final and overcame Sean Barron and Niall O’Brien Windgap to win out the U 11 Doubles final.  Congratulations and well done to all who represented Kells.


 



PRIMARY SCHOOL ENROLLMENTS: Parents who wish to enroll their children in any of the primary schools in the parish: St. Brigid’s, Kells, St. Eoghan’s, Kilmoganny or St. Leonard’s, Dunamaggan should do so as soon as possible. Children must be over 4 years old on the 1st September 2014.


 


DUNAMAGGAN G.A.A. CLUB:  The following events will take place in the coming weeks: (1) A Presentation of Juvenile GAA awards.  The medal presentation for all juveniles will be held in Townsend’s, Dunamaggan on 22nd February from 4.00 p.m. – 5.00 p.m. This presentation included the presentation of Medals to the Dunamaggan members of the All-Ireland winning Community Games Team under the name Aghaviller which represents the areas of Aghaviller, Dunamaggan and Ballyhale. (2) Registration Days: Registration for all club members will be held on Saturday 15th February in St. Eoghan’s Centre Kilmoganny after 7.30 p.m. mass and on Sunday 16th February after 11.00 a.m. Mass in St. Leonards Hall, Dunamaggan and also the Scouts Hall in Kells after 11.30 a. m. mass on Sunday 16th February. All family memberships (€160) paid before 31st March 2014 will be placed in a draw for a €100 Voucher for Supervalu, Callan (3) Gowran Race Day in Aid of Kilkenny Hurlers: There will be a family race day in Gowran Park on the 8th March. All proceeds will go to Kilkenny Player's training and Holiday fund. This will be a National Hunt Meeting. Anyone wishing to buy ticket (€10) please contact Martin Crehan (086-8300102); (4) GAA Garda Vetting: Anyone that might like to be involved this year or in the future at any level in Dunamaggan GAA club needs to be Garda vetted be it as first aid, water carrier, hurley carrier, selector, trainer etc. If you are not vetted already you should contact Aoife for a form @ aoifenail@hotmail.com . (5) Indoor Hurling: Dunnamaggin U 12 and U10 indoor hurling recommences in Wallslough at 7.30 p.m. next Friday night 7th February. Details will be circulated by text to relevant parents on Thursday. (6) Dunamaggan Hurling Club extends its congratulations to David Herity on winning a Walsh Cup medal with Kilkenny on last Saturday night in Croke Park .

A BENEFIT NIGHT will be held in Dunphy`s Lounge, Kilmoganny on Saturday 22nd February at 9.30 p.m. Music is by` Tequila Sunrise`. Adm. €5. Also an auction on the night. Your support would be very welcome. Meanwhile a Benefit Raffle has commenced and your support for this would also be very welcome. Super prizes. Tickets €5 each or book of three €10 .Draw for this raffle will take place at the Benefit night on the 22nd February.


 


SCHOOL MEDAL PRESENTATION for the members of the victorious Hurling team of 2013 will take place in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny on Saturday 15th February at 4.00 p.m.


 


WINDGAP CAMOGIE CLUB A.G.M. will take place in the G.A.A. Club Rooms, Windgap on Friday 21st February at 8.00 p.m. The Windgap Camogie Club has a large membership from Dunamaggan Parish. All who are interested in Camogie are invited to attend. The Camogie Registration will take place in the G.A.A. Club Rooms, Windgap on Sunday 23rd February from 10.30 a.m. A Cake Sale will take place during registration in the Club Rooms. Your support is welcome.


 


SCOUTS CAKE SALE will take place in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan on this Sunday 16th February after 11.00 a.m. mass. Your support is very much appreciated.


 


MASS FOR CHILDREN who will receive their First Holy Communion next May will be celebrated in St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan on this Sunday 16th February at 11.00 a.m.


 


 


ST. LEONARD’S VOLLEYBALL SUCCESS:  Five teams from St. Leonard’s National School, Dunamaggan participated in the Kilkenny Volleyball Championships on Thursday 23rd January. The girls team were narrowly defeated in the final and the boys team just failed to make the final. The mixed team of Tadgh O’Sullivan, Dylan Carroll, Conor Denny, Ciara Farrell, Amy Kinsella, Siobhan Brennan and Keelagh Sheridan were victorious and qualified for the Regional Finals in Cork on the 27th February.


 


BRIDGET BARRY late of Goodwinsgardens (Crab Road) died unexpectantly at her home on Saturday 1st February. She is survived by her brothers John, Jimmy, Henry, Billy and Mick, her aunt Biddy, in-laws, nieces and nephews, relatives and many friends. Her remains were removed to St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan on Tuesday evening where they were received by Rev. Nicholas Flavin P.P. The mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday last by Rev. Nicholas Flavin assisted by Rev. B. O’Callaghan, O.Carm. Members of her family read the readings and prayers of the faithful and presented gifts and symbols at the mass.
