MIN ALLEN, Carrick Road, Kilmoganny, was laid to rest on Thursday last 13th February in Kilmoganny Cemetery. She died at her home after an illness of a number of months in the loving care of her son Matthew. Her removal was from St. Joseph’s Home, Kilmoganny, where she was a regular mass attender and visitor on Wednesday evening. St. Joseph’s Home in Kilmoganny was the only place in Kilmoganny with electrical power on that evening as it had a generator which provided electrical power during the power outage due to the storm. Her remains were received in St. Eoghan’s Church by Rev. Nicholas Flavin P.P.. The lighting in the Church was provided by candlelight. The mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on last Thursday, again with no electrical power, by Rev. Nicholas Flavin. The readings and prayers of the faithful were read by family members who also presented the gifts at the offertory. She is survived by her sons, Matthew in Kilmoganny, Michael and Gerard, in-laws and grand-children in England who made the journey in spite of the inclement weather. May she rest in peace.

STORMS CAUSE DAMAGE: The severe storms of last Wednesday 12th February uprooted trees on many roads in Dunamaggan parish which caused major traffic disruption. The prompt action of numerous farmers and those who lived near fallen trees in using their chain saws and removing the fallen trees made travel possible on most of the roads within a short time period. Electric Power was lost in many parts of the parish and resulted in school closures on Thursday as there was no heat or light. The power was restored gradually to various areas of the Parish. The Kilmoganny area was one of the latter areas to have its power restored and it did not return until last Thursday evening. This meant that the funeral of Min Allen was held by candle light on Wednesday evening, an event which had not occurred for a very long time. In other parts of the parish it was not until Thursday night that power was restored. The E.S.B. Crews and Telecom Crews who worked tirelessly in restoring power and telephone lines are to be complemented. Damage was caused to a number of buildings by the storm.
