KELLS SCOUTS are holding a Table Quiz in Shirley’s, Kells on next Saturday 8th March at 9.00 p.m. Tables for the quiz are teams of four with an entry fee of €10 per person. All participants are welcome. The Scouts wish to thank all who supported the recent Cake Sale in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan.
Last weekend was a busy one for the Kells Scout Group. On Saturday, the Cubs section made a good stride forward in their Hillwalking badge-work with a morning hike in Tullahought. The group met at 10.00a.m. in the village and began the ascent shortly thereafter. They reached the highest point of the picturesque walk after around 45 minutes and took a well-deserved break for some snacks and drinks. Though the rain stayed away, the weather didn't fully co-operate as the normally spectacular sights from the top were not on view due to a heavy mist. Once refreshed, the group began the descent and arrived back at the starting point, muddied, tired and ready for lunch at around mid-day.
On Sunday the Scouts section headed off for a cycle but weren't nearly so lucky with the weather. It was a wet and miserable afternoon but as the event had been postponed due to the weather on a couple of occasions already, the group decided to press ahead. Their route took them from Kells to Dunamaggin, Stoneyford and back to Kells. Despite the inclement weather, the group enjoyed the trip thoroughly.

HOLLY GOREY, Ballytobin, in her sixth year, was called by God to her heavenly home last Friday 21st February in Crumlin Hospital. Holly, in her short life, in spite of her illnesses was a great inspiration to all whom she met. She will be sadly missed by her loving and devoted mother, Carol, her grandparents Michael & Ellen and Joan, her aunts Amanda, Sarah, Jan and Caroline, her numerous relatives and friends and the staff of the O’Neill Centre in Kilkenny and Crumlin Hospital in Dublin. Her remains were received in St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan by Rev. Nicholas Flavin P.P. assisted by Rev. Kieran Cantwell on Monday for the celebration of mass which was attended by an overflowing congregation. The readings and prayers at mass were recited by family members and the presentation of gifts and symbols reflected her life. Her grandmother, Ellen, in a moving and succinct address after communion summed up her impact on those whose lives she touched and thanked all who assisted in any way. She was laid to rest in Danesfort Cemetery. May she rest in peace.
