KILMOGANNY BRIDGE CLUB: Results of Wednesday 21st
May: 1st Elizabeth Lanigan & Grace Landy; 2nd Jackie
Kenneally and Ita Crowley and 3rd Carmel O’Sullivan and Emer Wallace.
Bridge is held in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny on each Wednesday at 8.00
p.m. As this is the season when a number of Bridge Clubs cease playing for the
Summer visitors and new members are welcome in Kilmoganny. Partners will be
provided for participants.
MASS AT GROTTO: The celebration of
the mass of Healing and welcome at the Grotto at Baurscoobe in Dunamaggan took
place last Thursday evening. As is usual with outdoor Celebrations of Mass in
the Parish the weather was once again fine and pleasant even though it rained
heavily an hour before hand. After the
mass those attending moved the short journey to the grounds of St. Leonard’s
Church for a Picnic, music and song about the Camp Fire and children’s play.
The Gardaí were thanked for their assistance as were Kathleen Brown and her
team for painting the Grotto area and John Walsh for his maintenance of the
lawns at the Grotto and Church.
KELLS HANDBALL CLUB: The Adult Leinster 60 x 30 Interclub championship has commenced
and Kells have a Junior Team entered of Brendan Burke, Diarmuid Burke, Ger
McGrath, Anthony Martin and Dan Breen. They received a walkover from Coolgreany
(Wexford) in the semi-final. In the Leinster Final they defeated the team from
Crinkle (Offaly) of Brian Doherty, Sean Ryan, Noel O’Brien and Conor O’Brien.
Congratulations to the Kells lads on winning their Junior Team Leinster Final.
The County Juvenile U 11
Doubles One Wall tournament was held in Talbot’s Inch on Wednesday 21st
May and Kells representatives were Matthew O’Sullivan and John O’Brien. They played Windgap and Galmoy and even
though they didn’t qualify out of their group they thoroughly enjoyed the
experience.
The Leinster Juvenile One
Wall championship was held in Ballacolla, Cullohill and Durrow venues over the
weekend and the Kells representatives were U 15 Singles Michael Power who was
defeated in the semi-final, in the U 14 Doubles Conor Hoban and Darragh
O’Keeffe who were beaten by Wexford in the final, in the U 13 Doubles Mickey Prendergast and Dillon
Wall who were beaten in the final by Wexford, in the U 12 Doubles Joe Cowhig
and Billy Drennan (Galmoy) who were joint runners-up with Laois, in the G U15 Doubles
Kym Ryan and Margaret Foley (Windgap) who defeated Laois in the final, in the G
U14 Doubles Laura Condon and Laura Foley (Windgap) who were beaten in the final
by Laois and in the G U 13 Doubles Meg
Ryan and Roisin Foley (Windgap) who defeated Wexford in their final. Congratulations and well done to all who
participated.
KELLS SUMMER FEST: The Kells Summer Fest will take place on next weekend, the June bank
holiday weekend. Events included for the weekend include Walking treasure Hunt
on Saturday, Photos of Past Times, Tours of the Castle on Saturday and Sunday,
Hurling and sporting events on Sunday, Kids games at the Crèche on Sunday, Live
music and stalls at the Cross on Sunday at 2.00 p.m, Pig on a Spit etc at 5.30
p.m. Sunday and Barbecue from 2.00 p.m. – 6.00 p.m. on Sunday when the 4 day
cyclists who travel from Kells to Kells Meath and Kells Co. Kerry before
returning home at about 5.00 p.m. on Sunday. The Dunamaggan U 6's will take
part in a blitz on the Sunday. This event will fundraise for a recreational
facility in Kells which will include a small astra-turf area. This will be a
great addition to the sporting facilities already available to young people in
the area and can only benefit the Hurling development in the long term. Please
support some of the events on over the weekend if you can. All proceeds are to
the Kells Recreation Area Development.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION was celebrated in
St. Eoghan’s Church on Sunday last 25th May for three pupils of St.
Eoghan’s School, Kilmoganny. They were: Ria Fitzpatrick,
Megan Kenneally, and
Anne Hartnett. The celebrant was Rev. Nicholas
Flavin P.P. The children took an active part in the celebration by reading the
readings and prayers of the faithful. Their parents also took part in the
offertory procession with the children. The school pupils sang and provided the
music for the ceremony.
