ST. LEONARD’S SCHOOL volleyball teams took part in the recent schools’ volleyball tournament for 5th and 6th classes. The boys’ team of Dara Keane (Captain), Luke Fitzpatrick, Brian Farrell, Alan Perse, Jamie McLoughlin and Conor Lawlor were victorious and have qualified for the regional finals in Cork. The mixed team reached their final but lost out by just 5 points. The girls’ team were beaten in the semi-finals.

THE DUNAMAGGAN PARISH MISSION commences next Sunday 27th February and concluded on Saturday 5th March. The mission is being conducted by Rev John Hannon C.Ss.R. and Rev. Derek Meskill C.Ss.R, both Redemptorists. A brochure inviting all parishioners to the mission and outlining the Mission programme has been distributed to homes in the parish. The Mission will be introduced at weekend masses next weekend. A special ceremony of blessing of babies and young children will take place during11.00 a.m. Mass next Sunday in St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan. The Opening Sessions of Mission take place on next Sunday evening at 7.00 p.m. St. Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny and in St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan 8.00 p.m.
During the week of the Mission Morning Masses will be celebrated in St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan at 7.00 and in St. Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny at 10.00 a.m.
The evening Mission Sessions will be in St. Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny at 7.00 p.m. and in St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan at 8.00 p.m.. On Saturday March 5th Mass and Anointing of Sick will be celebrated in St. Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny at 11.00 a.m. The Closing Masses of Mission: St. Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny at 7.00 p.m. and in St. Leonard’s Church, Dunamaggan at 8.00 p.m. The daily themes for the Mission are as follows: Monday: Healing Service with specially blessed Oils; Tuesday: Family & Relationship; Wednesday: Reconciliation and Confession; Thursday: Prayer and afterwards Taize and Youth Time; Friday: Community Night; Saturday: Eucharist - Community: Presentation of Symbols representing Groups/Organisations in the Parish will take place during evening masses. On Sunday March 6th the launch of Parish Preparation for Eucharistic Congress 2012 will take place during morning masses.
In preparation for the mission the Parish Pastoral Council will hold a short meeting on this Wednesday at 7.30 p.m. in St. Eoghan’s Centre, Kilmoganny.

DUNAMAGGAN G.A.A. CLUB will hold its monthly meeting on this Friday 25th February at 7.30 p.m. in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan. The club finance sub-group will meet at 9.00 p.m. immediately after the above meeting.

KELLS HANDBALL CLUB: In recent weeks players from Kells Handball club represented both the club and county in various competitions. Many of the players were successful. On Wednesday 9th February in Borris in the JBS Brendan Burke (Kilkenny/Kells) beat David Kenny (Wexford). On Thursday 10th February in Ballymore Eustace in the GMBD Pat Funchion/Paddy Fennelly (Kilkenny/Kells) got a w/o from John & Charlie Kelly (Louth). On Saturday 12th February in Garryhill in the JBD Darren O’Toole/Malachy Whelan (Wexford) beat Brendan & Diarmuid Burke (Kilkenny/Kells). On Wednesday 16th February in O’Loughlin’s in the JBD Brendan Hosey/Andrew Lawlor (Kilkenny) beat C J Delaney/Anthony Martin (Kells). On Thursday 17th February in Garryhill in the ID Nicholas Anthony/Brian Manogue (Kells) beat Pat Quaile/Michael Lennon (Wicklow). In Crinkle in the LJBD Rachel Hogan/Marie Walshe (Kilkenny/Kells) got a w/o from Natasha Patrizi/Leona Archibald (Westmeath); On Saturday 19th February in Garryhill in the U21D Semi Final Patrick & Peter Funchion (Kilkenny/Kells) beat Gary Donohoe/Ptr (Wicklow). In Crinkle in the JD Michael O’Brien/Noel Murphy (Offaly) beat Ger McGrath/Eamonn Foley (Kilkenny/Kells) ; In Windgap in the U21D Semi Final Keith Bourke/Eoghan Hennessy (Kilkenny) beat Dan Breen/Aidan Martin
(Kells).

On the 16th February Kells Handball Club held its A.G.M. which was well attended. The chairperson thanked all who were involved with club activities especially players, parents, coaches, supervisors and those who drive juveniles to matches. Former club members
William Phelan and John Power were congratulated on their Leinster and All Ireland wins for St.
Kieran’s College and with the Kilkenny Minor Hurlers. Sympathies were issued to
everyone who suffered bereavement in their family in 2010
