KILMOGANNY BRIDGE CLUB: Results of Wednesday 23rd: Individual Competition: 1st:

each Wednesday at 8.00 p.m. As this is the season when a number of Bridge Clubs
cease playing for the summer visitors and new members are welcome in Kilmoganny.

GOLF CLASSIC: The Annual Dunamaggin GAA golf classic will be held on Friday 15th
& Saturday 16th August at the usual venue of Callan Golf Club. Support
for this great event is very welcome. Contact Michael Murphy 086 2364864 or 056
7728210 for Tee times. Dunamaggan G.A.A. Club wish to thank all its 300 plus
supporters who purchased tickets in the Hurling Co-Op Draw.
A CARNAVAL CELEBRATION will take place in
Kilmoganny on next Sunday 3rd August. The proceedings will
commence with a recital of the Rosary
at Grotto in Kilmoganny at noon. This will be followed by a sponsored Walk through
Castlemorris wood. Teas in St Eoghan`s Centre during the afternoon. A historic
guided tour of the village will take place. A Dog Show in a field in the village
will take place at 2.00 p.m. A Children’s Fancy dress parade from council yard
to Church will commence at 2.30 p.m. Children from all places are welcome to
participate. Children`s show in Church yard or St. Eoghan’s Centre. A Tug of
War to discover the strongest team from the locality will commence in a field
in village opposite the school at 4.00 p.m. A Barbeque will be held from 3.00 p.m.
to 8.30 p.m. Musical entertainment by the Reid family will take place during the
afternoon outside St. Eoghan’s Centre on footpath. (no electrics). A
variety of Stalls will be present beside school and in the Picnic area. There
will be traditional music session in Dunphy’s from 7.00 p.m. ‘Vegas Nights’
will play from 10.00 p.m. A Raffle for great prizes will take place. Don’t miss
Frank’s colourful pigeons display their talents during the afternoon. The Proceeds are in aid
of L’Arche, Kilmoganny and St. Joseph’s Home, Kilmoganny.
A CROSS COUNTRY POC FÁDA from Baurscoobe to
Kilmoganny will commence with the first team of 3 setting off at 12.00 noon on
Sunday next 3rd August. Entries will be taken at either Kilmoganny
or at Baurscoobe and transport provided to the starting point for competitors.
The Course for 12 year olds and under is from Rogerstown to Kilmoganny.
Refreshments will be available for competitors on completion of event.
A SPONSORED WALK through Castlemorris Wood will commence at 12.30 p.m. on Sunday 3rd
August. Registration for the walk takes place in St. Eoghan’s Centre,
Kilmoganny from 11.15 a.m. The walk distances are of 3km, 6km and 10km. Teas
will be provided for all walkers after the event in St. Eoghan’s Centre,
Kilmoganny. Sponsorship cards are available in Kilmoganny Post Offices and in
Moran’s Shop. It is also possible to enter on the Sunday at registration.
MAURA DAVIS of Shortalstown died peacefully at her home in the company of her
family on Friday week last. Maura was a member of the Dunne family who were
publicans and business people in Dunamaggan prior to the business being sold to
Townsend’s. Maura is survived by her daughters Ann and Helen and sons Pat, Tom
and Michael, grandchildren, in-laws relatives neighbours and friends. Her
remains reposed at her home prior to their removal to St. Leonard’s Church,
Dunamaggan where they were received by Rev. Nicholas Flavin P.P. and Revs.
William Dalton and D. O’Gorman, Columban Fathers. Members of her family read
the readings and prayers of the faithful. She was laid to rest in Kilmoganny
Cemetery with her husband Joe. May she rest in peace.
