THE CARNAVAL CELEBRATION in Kilmoganny, last
Sunday 3rd August, took place in beautiful weather conditions.
Unlike the heavy rain of the previous day it was beautiful sunshine. The events
began with recital of the rosary at the grotto and singing of hymns. This was
followed by a sponsored walk or run in Castlemorris Wood of 3km, 5km or 10km.
The children’s fancy dress parade was a beautiful event. There was live music performed
by the Reid family, dog show, numerous stalls, the cross country long Puck competition,
a dog show and the trial of strength with the Tug-of-War at 4.00 p.m. The
strong men of Horse & Hound and Dunphy’s from Kilmoganny, Windgap,
Dunamaggan and last year’s champions from Killenaule were present. This year’s
Killenaule team was much more youthful than last year and even though they
progressed to the final they were beaten in the preliminary round by
Dunamaggan. The physically strong Dunamaggan team won every pull and at the end
of the competition seems none the worst for their efforts. The team coached by
Tom Hickey was Pat Holden, Jim Hickey, Noel Hickey, Denis Lahart, Noel Lahart,
Andrew O’Neill, Tom Cahill and Paddy O’Neill. A beautiful BBQ was available
during the afternoon and the evening concluded with Irish Music and a musical
evening.

JIM LEAHY was laid to rest on Saturday last 2md August in Kilmoganny
cemetery. He died in St. Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny after an illness. He is
survived by his mother Katie, Carricknatha, Kilmoganny, numerous relatives,
friends and neighbours. His remains were removed from Molloy’s Funeral Home
Callan to St. Eoghan’s Church, Kilmoganny on Saturday for mass of Christian
burial. His remains were received by Rev. Nicholas Flavin P.P. and Rev. Lima
Cassin. The readings and prayers of the faithful were read by members of his
family. Jim, a quality tradesman, was in ill health for a number of years. He
was laid to rest in Kilmoganny Cemetery. May he rest in peace.
