KELLS SCOUTS TAKE PART IN
INTERNATIONAL JAMBOREE:
17 scouts and leaders from
Kells scout group went to Norway for an international jamboree recently from 1st
– 10th August. It was an experience of a lifetime with over 5,000
scouts in total camping there for the event. The scouts had an opportunity to
meet and interact with other groups from all over the world. It was a very well
organised event with plenty of activities and an overnight hike for the scouts
to participate in. Both scouts and leaders learned many new skills on camp and
made plenty of new friends. The whole group had a great time and came home with
many new badges and scarves both either earned or swapped with other groups.
Overall it was a great trip and all agreed that they would love to do it again.
Many thanks to the Norwegian group, Meldal, who we were paired with the Kells
scouts and who helped them greatly during our trip. Anyone who would like to
see what scouting is all about can visit The Kells Scout’s stand at the Iverk
Show in Piltown show on Saturday 23rd August. Photo attached of group in Norway

DUNAMAGGIN U 14 HURLERS
ARE COUNTY CHAMPIONS:
The Dunnamaggin U14 team won
the final of their group in Mullinavat against a strong Mooncoin side on
Saturday last. Playing in front of large support from both sides Dunnamaggin
got off to the perfect start when a 65 from Harry Walsh went straight to the
net. This did not however deter the Mooncoin side who put over three successive
points to level things. Robbie McCauley then stepped up to point a free to put
Dunnamaggin in front only for Mooncoin to level it again. Robbie McCauley and
Eddie Dunne added further points only for Mooncoin to pull one back in what was
turning out to be an intriguing battle between the sides. Denis Walsh then got
in on the act pointing from play to put two between the teams. Mooncoin
responded with a well taken goal but this did not stir the Dunnamaggin teams
resolve and good work from Alex Moore fed the advancing Robbie McCauley who
rattled yet again for Dunamaggin. This sent the sides in at half time with
Dunnamaggin 2 - 04 to Mooncoin 1 - 05. Dunnamaggin started the second half well
with Robbie McCauley continuing his superb accuracy from frees pointing twice
from the placed ball. Dunnamaggin followed this up with points from brothers
Sean and Darragh O’Keeffe before Robbie McCauley again pointed a free to bring
the score to 2 - 09 to 1 - 05. Mooncoin responded with another well taken goal,
this turned out to be the only score in the second half that the very strong
Dunnamaggin backs anchored by Ian Walsh at centre back and Conor Hoban full
back were to concede.  Robbie McCauley
pointed another two frees before Darragh O’Keeffe again pointed from play.
Robbie McCauley had the last say of the game with another pointed free, his
seventh of the afternoon to see out the victory for Dunnamaggin. Ian Walsh duly
accepted the trophy on his team’s behalf and thanked all the mentors involved
especially team Manager Canice Hickey who has worked tiredly with this group of
players. The full time score was:
Dunnamaggin 2 - 13 to Mooncoin 2 – 05.

U 16 HURLERS ADVANCE TO
NEXT ROUND:
The impressive James Stephen’s Kells Rd
Ground was the venue for the Dunamaggin U16’s to start their championship off
on Thursday evening last 14th August. Dunnamaggin started very well
racing to a lead with points from play from Morgan Thomas, Dara Keane and Rory
Lodge. Dunnamaggin were playing with a strong breeze and they took full
advantage of it landing many balls deep into the Village’s full back line.
Conor Hoban on the 10th min found the net from one of these balls
from a tight angle which was followed up nearly immediately by the ever running
Morgan Thomas who also struck goal. Dara Keane then put over a super point from
the side-line midway through the half and the score stood at Dunamaggin 2 - 04
to 0 - 0. James Stephens then registered their first score, a well taken goal
that Dunnamaggin Shane Ivory-Corr (who was good though out) could do little
about. It was however cancelled out immediately when Conor Lawlor found the
back of the net. Rory Lodge then pointed again after some very strong running.
Conor Lawlor then traded points with James Stephens just before half time so
that the half time score was: Dunnamaggin 3 - 06 to James Stephens B 1 – 01.

Dunnamaggin started the second half well with good points from Harry
Walsh and Conor Lawlor, but James Stephens again responded with a goal and a
point.  Morgan Thomas, Roy Cullen and
Rory Lodge extended Dunnamaggin’s lead with three further points. James
Stephens, try as they might just could not break down the Dunnamaggin half back
Line of Brian Farrell, Victor Costello and Ian Walsh, who were superb
throughout. Harry Walsh added another goal and Roy Cullen added a point before
Rory Lodge had the last score of the game with a well taken goal. Full-time
score was: Dunnamaggin 5 - 12 to James Stephens B 2 – 04.

MINOR HURLERS DRAW: Dunamaggin Minor Hurlers took on St. Martin’s in a very windy back
pitch in Danesfort on Tuesday night (12th August) in their shield
semi-final. Dunnamaggin hurled with the very strong diagonal breeze in the
first half. Ronan Coffey pointed in the first minute which was immediately
followed up with a free from Eoghan Kearney. Eoghan Kearney then put over an
absolutely massive point from well inside his own half. St. Martin’s were
threatening all the time and shot a number of wides as the wind was difficult
to judge. Ronan Coffey pointed again midway through the half before Rory Lodge
got his name on the scoreboard also from play. St. Martin’s then started to
find their range with a point before Eoghan Kearney cancelled it out with a
fine free. St. Martin’s were starting to get to grips with the wind and added a
further two to send the sides in Dunamaggin 0 - 6 St. Martin’s 0 - 3 at half
time.

Both sides up the tempo in the second half and saw some ferocious
battles throughout the half. St. Martin’s pointed only for Ronan Coffey to
respond which was followed up with an Eoghan Kearney free. Then St. Martin’s
hit a purple patch and slotted over some nice points. The Dunnamaggin backs
were under continued pressure and the switch of Eoghan Kearney to centre-back
and the hard work of Aaron Doherty on the edge of the square were keeping the
net from being breached. Conor Lawlor was alert in the goal and dealt very well
with some high balls dropping in. Killian Lafford came on for Jack Crehan. The
last few minutes saw some great team play on both sides with Ronan Coffey from play
(4pts) and Eoghan Kearney (6pts) with yet another long range free sending the
game to a replay 11points all.

Panel:- Conor Lawlor, Brian Farrell, Aaron Doherty, Stephen Lawlor,
Jack Brett, Michael Cody, Victor Costello, Eoghan Kearney, Jamie McLoughlin,
