U 16 HURLERS VICTORY: In the U 16  Hurling Championship 1st Round Dunamaggin
faced St Martins on Tuesday 19th August at 7.00 p.m. in the James
Stephens, Kells Road grounds.

This game began at a frantic pace, as within a minute St Martins got the
scoreboard moving with a point. Dunnamaggin settled quickly and two minutes
later, Roy Cullen showed what the Dunnamaggin boys could do and buried the ball
in the net. This momentum continued over the next five minutes with points from
Morgan Thomas (2) and Roy Cullen. St Martin’s came back in the thirteenth
minute with a second point from a free, a score which was to be their last
score in the first half. Morgan Thomas continued his scoring spree in the
fourteenth minute with a cracking goal, the ball being fed to him from a great
run by Adam Fitzpatrick. St Martin’s made a further attempt but were denied by
the goalkeeping skills of Shane Ivory-Corr. A free in their favour a moment
later was also to no avail with the ball shooting wide of the upright. Morgan Thomas
scored another point from a free, bringing the score to 2 - 04 to 0 - 2. This
was followed by a shot at goal by Roy Cullen which rebounded off the post,
denying him his second goal. However Luke Fitzpatrick corrected this injustice
in the nineteenth minute burying the ball in the back of the net. Rory Lodge
got the next point and, within two minutes of his last goal, following a pass
from Morgan Thomas, Luke Fitzpatrick scored Dunnamaggin’s fourth goal. Two more
points from Adam Fitzpatrick and Morgan Thomas brought the game to half time
with the score Dunnamaggin 4 - 08 St Martins 0 - 02

The second half started with two substitutions; Dylan Crehan coming on for Ian
Walsh and Robbie McCauley for Harry Walsh. This was to a better half for St
Martin’s. In the first ten minutes, Dunnamaggin scored two points, one from
play by Roy Cullen and a well taken free by Morgan Thomas. However, during the
same time, St Martins scored eight points, five from play and three from frees.
Dunnamaggin made their next change, with Conor Lawlor coming on for Adam
Fitzpatrick. Strong consistent attacking from St Martins could have been more
disastrous for Dunamaggin was it not for great defending by Shane Ivory-Corr,
Eddie Dunne, Victor Costello and Jack Crehan, to name a few. St Martin’s got
another point in the twenty first minute followed shortly by a point from a
free for Dunnamaggin by Morgan Thomas. The final substitutions for
Dunamaggin  were Nick O’Shea and Killian
Lafford coming on for Conor Hoban and Darragh O Keeffe. St Martin’s put the
pressure on in the last few minutes of the game with two goals, bringing an
eighteen point deficit at half time down to a six point deficit. However, there
was not to be enough time for any comeback and these were the last scores of
the game. The final score, after a fast paced, exciting game was Dunnamaggin 4 -
11 St Martins 2 - 11
