DUNAMAGGAN SENIOR HURLING TEAM made a successful start to their Leinster League campaign in Ballyhale last Saturday when they defeated the Harps from Durrow/Cullohill, Co. Laois. In the bright sunshine the Laois lads settled into their stride much quicker than the Dunamaggan team and were 0 – 3 to 0 – 0 up after ten minutes. This was understandable as the Dunamaggan team had a blend of newcomers to the senior squad and experienced players. Once J.J. Dunphy opened the score for Dunamaggan they began to take control in most sectors of the field. Two well taken goals by Jim Power and Brian McCormack helped them to a 2 – 6 to 0 – 6 half time lead which would have been much greater but for some 11 wides. The team controlled the second half and ran out worthy winners on a score of 2 – 14 to 1 – 10. The team was: Andrew O’Dwyer, Mark Dowling (0 – 1), Aidan Donovan, Matthew Moylan, Brendan Moore, Canice Hickey, Richard O’Shea (Andrew Hickey), Ken Moore (0 – 1), Darren Fitzpatrick (0 – 3), Tommy Maher (0 – 2) (Andrew O’Neill), J.J. Dunphy (0 – 1), Mark Heffernan, Brian McCormack (1 – 1), John Hickey (Kieran Bergin (0 – 2)), Jim Power ( 1 – 3).

Well done to Brian who we hope will avenge his defeat in the 2010 decider. Playing with a new partner this year it is hoped that Brian can become the first man from Kells to reach Senior Status in the small alley.
In the Juvenile County Championships: U10 boys: Kells had two pairs entered Kells 1 was Michael Prendergast & Simon O Dwyer and Kells 2 was Luke Hudson & Colm Nolan. Michael
and Simon played great handball but unfortunately were defeated by Goresbridge 11-6 in the tie break in the quarter final. Luke and Colm playing in their first competitive handball match started off very well against a strong Clogh pair but were defeated in the semi final. In the U 11Boys Doubles Daniel Power/Michael Power were unfortunate not to make the finals. In the U 13 Boys Singles Cillian Lafford and Brian Farrell competed. Cillian losing in the semi final and Brian reached the final but was defeated in the tie break by Peter Duggan (Kilfane) who regularly trains for the 40x20 in Kells.
