THE PAT WALSH MEMORIAL
COMMITTEE
which organises the annual Easter Sunday
Parade in Dunamaggan is planning for the 1916 Parade. It is panned to have a
weekend of celebrations and commemorations during the Easter weekend of 1916.
During the past years the only Easter Parade held in Co. Kilkenny has been in Dunamaggan.
It is hoped that the 1916 Easter Celebrations and commemorations will re-enact
life in Dunamaggan of 100 years ago. This will be done through photographic
exhibitions, displays of machinery of the time, commemoration of the Great War
of 1914 – 1918 and locals who participated in it, the development of the
Volunteer movement which lead to the War of Independence, dress of the time,
how the village has changed, drama, song and music as well as pass times of the
period. Anyone with ideas is asked to contact any member of the committee or
attend the next meeting on Tuesday 24th March in St. Leonard’s Hall.
The members of the committee are: Eddie Ryan, John Kelly, Seamus Kelly, Joe
Sheridan, Eugene O’Donovan, Matt Doran, Aidan Farrell, Phil Brennan, Tom
O’Shea, Noel McDonald, Ned Kirwan, John Holden, Ray Cody, Tom Phelan, Mary
Moylan, Eilish Holden and Nicholas Flavin.
